Kids just getting back into school after all of the COVID shutdowns. Well at least they won’t be exposed to drag queens and CRT nonsense

teachers are well overpaid and over benefitted....despite the narrative put out there by our social betters....

the nuns used to say that marriage and nursing and teaching were vocations, for the greater good.....whatever...

The low wage canard always pisses me off. I used to live by a couple that were both teachers. They owned two rental properties and went to Italy every summer. There was no inheritance or family money.

The best teachers, who deserve the excellent pay, were those that got a Masters and could have made even more money in the private sector. However they chose to teach.

I have a few family members who are either retired or current teachers. They are the kind who don’t need a text book to tell them everything to do and would use it as a loose guideline to often times make their own assignments or lessons to tweak to best fit that class.

The WORST are those who ONLY wanted to be teachers and had no clue what to do without the teachers edition text book.

Low wage in this case refers to wage for workers who are not teachers...Special education aides...Bus drivers...Cafeteria workers...

LAUSD teachers are striking in support of those workers...Different unions are involved in this strike...SEI U and UTLA...

I thought the District would give in and the strike would be avoided...Wrong...District refused to give in...

I am thinking that the District would let the unions strike for three days...But, it will not give in...

School employees, who are not teachers, cannot afford to strike for more than three days...In my opinion...

This 3 day strike is a gamble for the SEIU...The union members may end up forfeiting 3 days of pay for nothing...

Teachers could afford to go on strike for more than 3 days since they make more money than those employees...

Good points...

I just want to point out that people with certain college majors have no other choice but to go into teaching...

What could people, who majored in PE, do in private sector? Making $70,000 per year?

Those PE majors could make $70,000 per year working as public school PE teachers...

What could history majors do in private sector?

Many history majors go to law school...Or they become high school or middle school history teachers...

as a resident of LA i believe this will further erode participation in the system. i believe i read that enrollment has fallen by 100000 students due to revelations and lockdowns of covid. of course a lot of that is in the communities that ill afford to be undereducated. and many yanked kids due to indoctrinational curricula. frankly i say don’t intefere with those intent on shooting themselves in the foot. let the unions/teachers destroy the sick and corrupted system.

With reading proficiency at 44% and math at 33%, I’m not sure much harm will be done.

They should pass a law like Arkansas just did where parents sending their children to private school or home schooling can get 90% of what public schools spend on their child.

NO ONE-—IN ANY UNION—can afford to strike for any amount of time past 24 hours.

Been there-—already have the t-shirts, thanks.

I have seen some reports of a budget for ‘schools’ that has $56,000 +++ per pupil as their guideline.

That is over $287/day/pupil

You are right about decreasing enrollment in LA Unified School District...
