Layla Jane, an 18-year-old who identified as transgender in adolescence before outgrowing it, plans to sue the hospital system and health care providers involved in her medical transition.

Let's hope this sets a precedence...before the government forbids those who were transitioned as young teens from suing.

Aside from gender identity issues, Jane experienced social anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, trouble with bullying, behavior trouble, mania symptoms and suicidal ideation, according to the letter. She began to identify as transgender at age 11; doctors at the Kaiser Permanente hospital system initially told her she was ineligible for hormones prior to turning 16, but her case was then transferred to three other doctors who “immediately” approved her for hormones and a double mastectomy, according to the letter.

Makes me wonder where her parents were? And why they allowed this to take place at such a young age.

The doctors who did this to her need to be held personally accountable.

This is exactly what I've been saying for some time. Many / most transsexuals are actually people who are tormented with mental health issues and they foolishly think that mutilating themselves is the answer. It's not and they end up committing suicide way over the normal rates. But treating them for the real issue has been basically banned and that's cruel.

How do 11 yo kids even know about sexual dysmorphia, hormone treatments? She was groomed and directed on what to say and as long as it is profitable it will continue.

Yes, there certainly are. I taught teens for years - mostly 14-16 year olds. In California (and I assume everywhere else) kids that age are allowed to get a tattoo with parent consent.

It shocked me how many parents would sign off on a kid’s tattoo, usually for a birthday. They couldn’t wait to show them off when they got to school.

All perfectly common teenage problems, almost everyone has one or more of those at some time.
The treatment is to teach them to cope and grow up, not to fool them to believe they can escape their problems by going under the scalpel.
This is why we don't let underage people make big decisions.
Even if they are smart, they have not lived long enough to develop the necessary long term perspective.
