For the first time in the state’s history, Republicans have a supermajority in Louisiana. Republicans now have a 70-vote supermajority and can override a veto by the state’s Democrat governor John Bel Edwards.
On Friday, the longest-serving Democrat in the Louisiana state legislature Rep. Francis Thompson announced he was switching parties. Thompson has served in the legislature since 1975. This action by Thompson doesn’t come as much of a surprise as his voting record shows that the had been caucusing with the Republicans.
Thompson gave a statement after announcing the switch, “Let me clear. Nothing has changed, there are values and principles that I firmly hold onto that guide my decision. My conservative voting record over my years in the Legislature speaks for itself.”

Good. Now ram through constitutional carry. Ram it right down the Democrat governor’s throat.
If you can’t beat them join them.
Clean up the voting rolls and processes as well.
“My conservative voting record over my years in the Legislature speaks for itself.”
His conservative voting record is actually quite moderate (though trending the right way), but he had to toe the Rat party line a lot of the time and should be liberated now to vote his true conscience.
Starting last summer (because of another party switch) Republicans already HAD a supermajority in the LA House. It was by just 1 seat, a margin which they lost in November, but this switch gives them that 1-seat supermajority advantage again. The GOP should be heavily favored for Governor this year, which will give them full control of the Louisiana government again; they had that from 2011 — thanks to a ton of Democrat switches — through the 2015 elections.
Yet the stupid party will still not protect our freedoms from a totalitarian federal government.
Louisiana is now a solid red state specifically because of the forced relocation of Chocolate City residence to Houston Texas after hurricane Katrina.
Louisiana was able to kick out more than 200000 democrats from New Orleans. They go wherever the welfare checks are sent.
If only a hurricane would strike Philadelphia so the Pennsylvania welfare leaches could be sent to Baltimore Maryland. /spit
Well, well, well! How convenient. While representing the most poverty stricken area in Louisiana, Francis Thompson has decided to become a Republican. Now that he has completed the acquisition of a lake, a state park, a golf course, a hotel and a convention center at state expense while ignoring the poverty in his legislative district.
He is 83 years old so his sun is hanging very low in his horizon so the timing is perfect to make the change. After all, being the devout Christian that he said he was while making the conversion announcement, who in their right mind wants to enter into God’s presence branded as a Democrat?
Louisiana does not have a constitutional carry law. One was passed last year by a veto proof majority, but the Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards did what any Democrat governor would do and vetoed it anyway. The supposedly veto proof legislature did not contain enough real Republicans to call a special session and override the veto. Yep, too many RINOs to bother with a special session. So, there is another concealed carry bill in this session of the legislature. Let’s watch and see how Francis Thompson approaches this bill this time. Is he a RINO or is he a real republican? He, like many of his colleagues, can be either.
They get all of the benefits of a totalitarian federal government, with none of the blame.
Is that stupid or cunning?...
“ Some democrats are starting to see the light.”
That my friend, depends upon your location. Out here in the Soviet of Washington, the dims here are on full tilt commie.
As a person born a conservative, who spent 4 years in New Orleans 1970-‘74, I never understood why folks voted dimocRAT in Louisiana. Everyone I knew and interacted with were conservative even back then.
This is good news, I love Louisiana. I wish I could convince my wife….
Some of Louisiana is nice, however there is still many RINOs in the state legislature, like in most states...
Is the Governor a Rat?
“Is the Governor a Rat?”

For an intelligent person you have forgotten a couple of important things. Listen, the party is what we make it. All Politics Are Local.
All of us should be working to help fix it rather than throwing insults, you don’t curse first responders, cops or your doctor do you, we can and are beginning to turn this big ship around. Sometimes we error when choosing a doctor, lawyer, mechanic. We fire them and find better. We don’t call them stupid and continue using their services. Politicians are no different.
Just look at the good start 20 America First Patriots we’re able to do in the US House this year. Over the protests too of many in the GOP who were either assistant dims or they were suffering from battered wife syndrome.
For the first time in my life, 69, the conservatives are fighting hard and smart. Racking up victory after victory. Find the dumbest or crookedest representative in your district and work hard, you have the time, to elect a good local conservative representative even if it’s you.
You are a Freeper, you are an action person, or you should be, make something happen.
Listen, the party is what we make it. All Politics Are Local.
Just think if we were all involved locally and reporting our small wins and encouraging others.
Yep! Be aware of wolves in sheep’s clothing.
And the left have many herds for use if needed.
