PH, US to hold largest joint military exercises; will China warn of war?

First word

FOR an announcement of forthcoming joint military exercises, the simultaneous statements from Manila and Washington oddly sounded as though a major event had taken place. The spell-out of details and participants appeared calculated to raise also the temperature and tempers in Beijing.

Observers and watchers of the South China Sea situation will probably predict that the April exercises will provoke China to issue another warning of war, which calmer voices will cool down.

An exercise, after all, is just a rehearsal or practice like calisthenics. This one is designed to promote the general fitness and preparedness of alliance forces watching over "the hottest flashpoint in the world."

Exactly, no fore thought. Biden’s war cheerleaders have a death wish, what’s it going to be? War of course, war with Russia, war with China, war with whomever doesn’t bow down to Biden’s corrupted, immoral regime?

The US can’t stop Vlad, how are they going to stop China? ….hint, they aren’t.
US hegemony is in its twilight days, get used to it. Thank you America last Joe.

War cheerleaders, your road leads to destruction.

We’ve played the ‘Philippines are our allies’ game before. How did that work out back in 1992?

With current executive administration in PH it should work out quite well (my gf happens to be personal friend of the new VP).

Good. Have you seen the non western video about Russia’s take down of our $60 million drone. Hilarious….Ivan peed on it, brought it down then the Pentagon says it wasn’t environmentally friendly…..sorry folks, America is the laughing stock of the world, thanks Joe.

Give it a rest.

Military exercises take place all the time, and the U.S.
isn’t the only nation to hold them.

Are you sure you’re on the right forum?

Everybody in East Asia is apprehensive about China. Popular opinion in the Philippines is intensely against China. Countries in the region are bulking up their forces to oppose Chinese ambitions. The critical countries in this matter are Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia.

How are they going to stop China?

1. Controlling the seas. This is a high tech competition. China is well behind on this. The USN and USAF are key. But the local allies are definitely not chopped liver.

2. The Philippines is a weak player, unable to protect its own airspace and waters. However, the US is capable of doing this given the distances (@500-600 miles from substantial Chinese forces).

3. If the Philippines were to be given even limited radar, Air Defense, and SAM or interceptor assets, it could significantly reduce Chinese abilities in its direction. The true danger from China is fighter bombers with antiship missiles or land attack missiles. But the range from mainland China limits Chinese capabilities.

4. The famous Chinese artificial islands are very limited bases. They simply haven’t got the space and storage to operate a large number of aircraft. And similarly because of the lack of dispersal they are vulnerable. A small number of US ATACMS (on HIMARS) or similar missiles would make them very vulnerable. These HIMARS could be deployed on roads in Palawan island (and some others) where they would be near-invulnerable.

The Pentagon has been largely focused on the Chinese threat for nearly 20 years. That has the #1 near-peer planning target for a generation of staff officers.

There has been plenty of forethought, across many administrations. You are way too focused on US politics to understand the institutional nature of the US military. And, I must say, far too obsessed with personalities.

The US (and NATO) btw has stopped Vlad with minimal effort in a proxy war - that is, with both hands, less, maybe, the left pinkie, behind its back. Russia has no hope in aggressive ambitions vs NATO. If the Russians were to attempt to, say, occupy Latvia, their offensive forces, air bases, Air Defense systems would be stomped on by US/NATO Air and crushed by an exterminating counterattack. And all Russian trade from all their ports would be hopelessly blockaded.

Very nice commentary, however Vlad has no intentions of taking Ukraine or any other country. His goals, spelled out clearly and concisely on Feb 24 , are already largely accomplished.
1) Ukraine demilitarized
2) Ukraine does not join NATO
3) Ukraine de-nazified.

That said, I fully expect as the situation deteriorates with Ukraine, at some point negotiations will begin. The much discussed starting point will begin with the violated Minsk Agreements.

Vlad will keep the Ethnic Russian provinces ( the Donbass), the Ukies will not be admitted to NATO ( nor the EU- they are already bankrupt and can not afford another welfare nation) , and both sides will declare victory .

This is my deal, with the three main points:

1. Russia gets Eastern Provinces (Donbas and Lukhansk)

2. Crimea is administered jointly with equal access to Ukraine and Russia. Russia will have a land bridge to allow access to Crimea.

3. The Rest of Ukraine is eligible to join NATO, and therefore any future attacks on Ukraine will be subject to Article 5.

You assume the US can continue to fund its ambitions. They can’t.

It is clear, the same method the West used to take down the Soviets , that is now happening to the West. The EU is broke, unable to fund a proper military, and the economic decline the US is experiencing is increasing.

We are witnessing the death of US hegemony, the world’s power structure is shifting from the West to the East ( China, Russia, India, and the Brics).

Your flaw- Vlad isn’t giving up Crimea or the four Russian provinces he has acquired. They are now part of the Russian Federation. The Duma ( and Russian people) will simply not allow that to happen. Make no mistake, the Russian people are strongly united on this issue.

Exactly. Just viewing all the postings by non western countries with “ Vlad pissing on the US drone, bringing it down, then the Pentagon claiming their method of dumping fuel on it was not environmentally friendly “ is hilarious.

Adding insult to injury, Russia just recovered the drone. Good lesson for the war cheerleaders. You will notice the replacement drone we have dispatched is now staying well clear of Crimea….a win for Vlad.
