Currently, the school’s policy is that students who were “assigned female at birth who identify as men are not eligible for admission,” but students who were “assigned male at birth who identify as women are eligible for admission.”

even if you believed that Wellesley was still an all-women’s college when it allowed males “identifying” as women, how can it continue to claim to be such when it will allow women who identify as men, or so-called “nonbinary” students, to attend? If the school abides by radical leftist gender ideology, trans men are men, and if they are men, you can’t claim to be an all-women’s school, can you? On top of that, if the school does allow “trans men” to attend, then why not just drop all pretense of being a single-sex school and allow biological men who don’t identify as transgender to apply to the school?
If you’re going to allow men who “identify” as women, and women who “identify” as men to apply, why not include men who don’t suffer from gender dysphoria?

It occurs to me that this provides the opportunity for a key legal test.
Say a regular old, biological male (who identifies as male) were to apply to Wellesley. He will certainly be rejected, and not on academic grounds. Now he can sue Wellesley for sexual discrimination, and Wellesley will be forced to decide on a defense strategy.
If they stand firm on their policies, it would be easy to show that they are discriminating on the basis of gender identity, which, thanks to Biden, is now a federally protected class which they are forbidden to discriminate based on.

Agreed. I think a lot of this nonsense really got a foothold in society when we allowed the term “transgender” to gain currency. But transgenderism is a biological impossibility as one cannot transition from male to female or vice versa. In reality, this people are transvestites (defined as people who like to dress as the opposite sex) with varying degrees of commitment to their fetish. I intend to stop using the word transgender and label them accurately.
Unfortunately, graduates of Wellesley go to DC to work in Government, go to law school, go into education or work on Wall Street. In 30 years, some of them will be in high leadership positions.

Your original concept has been tried in the past, they failed. It is why “The 7 Sisters” flourished for ages before they started falling apart.
For the “male only” colleges—mostly military schools—it was ties to the federal money and applicable state laws forced them to allow females.

What I find interesting is that men pretending to be women are doing all sorts of things like take awards and participate in events that used to be reserved for actual women, and they respond with fawning and giggles. Notice that you don’t see women who pretend to be men taking any acting roles, or breaking into sports, or being accepted by real men. Smith College had a policy allowing men who pretend to be women to enroll but barred women who pretended to be men. I would love to hear the debates when those dudes started swinging their Johnson’s in the locker rooms.
Yes, I think if Wellesley isn’t taking any federal money or assistance, then they could probably survive such a lawsuit, but if they are taking one dollar of federal funding, then they are on the hook to follow all the anti-discrimination regulations.
