Former President Trump on Monday opened the door on what might be the nastiest primary fight yet, lashing out at acolyte-turned-rival Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida who is widely seen as his most powerful rival for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Eight years removed from a 2016 GOP primary where he regularly mocked would-be rivals such as “low-energy” Jeb Bush and “lyin’” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Trump ahead of a visit to Iowa told reporters on his plane that he regretted endorsing DeSantis during his 2018 bid for governor.
Later in the evening, he used a speech in Davenport to take several potshots at DeSantis, accusing him of wanting to “decimate” Social Security and comparing him to Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the GOP’s 2012 presidential nominee.
While it wasn’t the first time that Trump went after DeSantis, his comments marked a dramatic intensification of his attacks.

Anybody who thinks Trump is being “Nasty” has forgotten the 2016 primaries, and every other GOP primary as well.
Buckle your seatbelts boys and girls, we are just getting started.
And those of you upset with Trump for going after DeSantis, all DeSantis has to do, is bow out definitively and endorse Trump and it all goes away.
And given DeSantis doesn’t have a chance in Hell to win the GOP Primary, and he is simply a pale copy of President Trump, basically a Trump “Mini-Me”, this is the best option for DeSantis if he ever wants to sit in the big seat.
I think DeSantis won’t run and won’t say anything.

But it now doesn't look like that, unfortunately.
I think DeSantis will win it all. Trump lost, and it's time to replace him.
Or he can run and start hitting back, with actual substance like Operation Warp Speed rather than petty name-calling.
Will be real interesting come May when the Florida legislative session ends and DeSantis officially jumps in.
All DeSantis has to do is sit back quietly while Trump runs his big fat mouth. Already Trump has done major damage to his core MAGA devotees. And yet Trump keeps digging and digging a deeper hole.
Trump didn’t lose. He won but was ousted by a deep state coup.
A color revolution, right here in the good old USA. Regime change.
