I lived in the Bay Area of CA when BART was built. BART destroyed miles of lovely neighborhoods and houses in Oakland. The government bought and destroyed those houses, forcing the former residents farther out into the suburbs where they would be dependent on BART to get to their jobs. Now that many people are telecomputing to work, what did they expect?
Worked downtown San Francisco for 20 years, had a number of co-workers that would commute 3 hours each way, drive a bit, then take BART into town. Unbelievable, get up at 4 get home at 8 or 9, if everything went well.
