It’s stupid to have debates within the same party. All it does is provide sound bites for the media to use.
I think the same thing!
I think debate participants should debate policy, and not get personal.
Yes, we all saw in 2016 how Trump derided “Little Marco” and “Lying Ted”. But these statements against DeSantis, who should be a political ally, after the primary season is over, cannot help gain support for Republicans, assuming DeSantis becomes a declared candidate. If Trump gets in a debate and starts calling him “DeSanctimonious”, all that does is provide fodder for the liberals and late night idiot comedians.
When there is a circular firing squad, you’re right, all you do is provide sound bites for the liberals and media.
Debates are as American as apple pie. I like them as they let me evaluate the candidates face-to-face, so to speak. There’s no hiding behind press secretaries, PR teams, and the like.
But you do have a point about the media. So the trick is to debate without carelessly providing those harmful sound bites. The Democrats are rather good at that. And they have much more leeway to begin with.
Unfortunately, Republicans are often not so good at it.
THAT is a GREAT point!
