This is the Leader of the Free World, Ladies and Gentlemen!
The 1934 order for a monoplane with a minimum speed of 250 mph, is what you are quoting for what became the Spitfire. The actual performance tests of the prototype show a speed of 349 mph. http://www.spitfireperformance.com/spitfire-I.html Improvements in the Merlin engine and the adoption of the Griffin engine gave the Spitfire of maximum speeds in the mid-400 mph range.
The Meteor was used against the V-1s to either shoot them down or “tip the wing” to disrupt the gyrocompass and leading to the V-1 crashing. The Hawker Tempest and Typhoon aircraft both used this method. P-47s, P-51s and Mosquito fighters were also used to knock down V-1s
The primary British aircraft used against the V-1, and with the most “kills” of them was the Hawker Tempest. It had the best low altitude/high speed performance of all the types used to bring down V-1s: One Tempest pilot, Squadron Leader Joseph Berry (501 Squadron), shot down 59 V-1s.

I’d bet the ‘Operators’ were crapping
Their BVD’s !!!

They have very comfortable Chairs!

Mostly they used Hawker Tempests 435 mph, and late war Spitfires were zipping along at 440 mph. Late was Gloster Meteors were hitting 600.
And it was not an impact per se. They would fly close formation, put a wingtip under the V1 wingtip and gently tip it. That upset the gyro and it would spin straight in.
The technique was so successful that it became preferred rather than detonating a 2000 bound bomb inside of guns range.
Gun camera of one such shootdown. Nasty and dangerous to get that close.

Needed Repeating
I doubt most Americans will want to go to war over a drone.
Most Americans want us to end our involvement in this war. The political elites and their corporate paymasters want an endless war. Follow the money.
(Spitfires were capable of top speeds of 440 mph.)
That’s what I thought
Pretty fast at one point
(Escalation)
Oh good.
Well at least our banking system is stable.
Yeah, I’m aware of the wording of the report, which is highly manufactured. So the Russians “antagonized” the drone, whose feelings were hurt? Identify the impurity is the first step of effective propaganda. So I’m questioning everything except that a Reaper hit the Black Sea.
Little doubt the RF story will be, if it is not already, the Reaper approached their coast transponders off, they scrambled interceptors which approached the drone. The apparently feelings hurt drone recoiled and into the water without collision.
There are also reports the RF recovered the wreckage 60 km from Crimea.
The Google supplied speed of 369 mph was probably an average of speeds over the plane’s history.
I remember some movie where they were chasing V-1s trying to shoot them down
Not sure what they were supposed to be flying though
I had always figured it was possible
The ‘antagonizing’ probably more described the controllers sitting somewhere staring at a screen, probably Langley AFB.
“Better a drone than anything with a human being aboard.”
Remembering the Hainan Island incident in 2001 when a Chinese manned jet collided with a US Navy EP-3E spy plane in international waters, forcing the manned US plane to land in Chinese territory. The 24 US servicemen aboard were detained by the Chinese for 10 days. The men were only released after the US sent China a letter stating it was “sorry” for the death of the Chinese pilot and “sorry” the US aircraft entered Chinese airspace. The Chinese interpreted the “letter of two sorries” as a formal apology while the US State Department declared it an expression of regret or sorrow. The US paid China for the dismantling and shipping of the downed aircraft and $34,000 for food and lodging for the US crew. The incident took place 10 weeks after the inauguration of G.W. Bush as president and was his first foreign relations crisis.
The Russian plane antagonized the US drone? Big belly laugh. Shoot it down Vlad, aircraft, balloon, whatever, it has no valid reason to be there…poking the Bear again, on Russian Territory none the less! …6,000 miles from the US…..As said repeatedly, the US war cheerleaders need an excuse to escalate- desperation indeed.
Carry on war cheerleaders, you are most definitely on the road to destruction.
By the end of the war, the Spitfire had been thoroughly transformed; it — quite literally — grew up. Later versions were larger and faster.
Great video synopsis here:

Hey Putin, pity one of your tankers should run into a WWII mine.
I remember the incident, perhaps Vlad needs to repeat it….the US is getting dangerously out of hand…..forcing a US warplane to land in Crimea would be icing on the cake for Vlad. The US has no business operating operations 6,000 miles from its borders…..the US should be prepared to receive a bucket load of egg on its face.
Hey Putin, pity one of your tankers should run into a WWII mine.

Yeah right, a Ukro Nazi mine- carefull, do remember the Russians defeated the Nazis in WW2, and are doing it again.
