Ron DeSantis Says Protecting Ukraine Is Not a Key U.S. Interest
The New York Times ^ | By Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has sharply broken with Republicans who are determined to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, saying in a statement made public on Monday night that protecting the European nation’s borders is not a vital U.S. interest and that policymakers should instead focus attention at home.

###

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness with our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” Mr. DeSantis said in a statement that Mr. Carlson read aloud on his show.

###

“F-16s and long-range missiles should therefore be off the table,” he added. “These moves would risk explicitly drawing the United States into the conflict and drawing us closer to a hot war between the world’s two largest nuclear powers. That risk is unacceptable.”

“A policy of  ‘regime change’  in Russia (no doubt popular among the D.C. foreign policy interventionists) ,” Mr. DeSantis said, “would greatly increase the stakes of the conflict, making  the use of nuclear weapons more likely.

Mr. DeSantis added, “We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, especially as tens of thousands of Americans are dying every year from narcotics smuggled across our open border and our weapons arsenals critical for our own security are rapidly being depleted.”

Why not let the disenfranchised voters of Crimea decide what country they want to belong to?

Is that what Putin did?

Lindsey Graham is the Leader of the Republicans in the Senate.

They can’t make it secure - spending the money as they do. No matter how much more they demand, they’ll spend a greater amount.

I actually think DeSantis may be a good choice in 2028 - but not until then.

We have folks trying to compete over who they can trash the hardest - they will ensure a loss of FReedom if they all get their way...the first time I saw them raise their heads was when they started pushing some Virgil Goode (Original Dem pol who switched to being “Repub”) as the choice some years ago...

“DeSantis is getting a lot of money from former Trump donors. “ LOL. A wealth of data via the FEC that puts the lie to this statement. Desantis’ average donor contribution according to FEC data is $1M plus. President Trump’s average donor contribution is <$200.00. Desantis’ entire war chest is funded ENTIRELY by deeper state, business as usual, Never-Trumpers.
“Desantis has a path to the White House. Trump does not.” This is LAUGHABLE on its face. The entirety of the Establishment, Swamp, Media complex made this same absurd statement 24/7/365 all the way up to the man’s election as President. Desantis couldn’t tie Trump’s shoes.
He has all the charisma/likeability of Yeb! and Cruz. That is to say, none whatsoever.
In head-to-head debates, President Trump will chew him up and spit him out and barely remember it even happened.
Desantis is a Light Weight Poser. A Me Too candidate that the Swamp is Using in the Hope and Prayer he can help them stop Trump. Period.
And, that Low Life is a Willing Tool drooling at the slim possibility that with the Swamps assistance and Never-Trumper cash, he might possibly pull it off.

In a free and fair election, either one of these two candidates would win a national election.
