The effects of the COVID-related government shutdowns three years ago continue to reverberate. A new report from the Associated Press indicates that many American teens have become disillusioned with college and have opted to skip it in favor of going to trade school or working a job that does not require an undergraduate degree.
Between 2019 and 2022, college enrollment in the U.S. fell 8%, and the decline in college enrollment since 2018 has been the steepest on record, the AP claimed. Though enrollment increased slightly from 2021 to 2022 after most schools returned to in-person classes, the numbers have begun to alarm some lawmakers, college administrators, and researchers. by TaboolaPromoted Links You May Like Average Retirement Savings By Age: Are You Normal? Graduate: “Who’s Gulliver?”
And now these poor guys are going to be competing with the 10s of millions illegals and the more millions Biden is letting walk right in.

“articles on FR about kids complaining that manual work is punishment”
That’s on the parents.....or parent as many times as not probably.
I used to mow my yard for 50 cents and was glad to have the money....parents these days are doing their kids a great disservice by not teaching them that manual labor is part of life.
And knowing how to use tools has undoubtedly saved me no telling how many thousands of dollars over the course of my life.
I write this today having earned both a bachelor’s degree with a 4.0 GPA and a masters degree with a 3.7 GPA while working full time. And I can tell you that I learned very little for all of the expense and effort.
I was 25 years into a career before the roof came crashing in in April of 2009 and my company ceased operations. O’Vomit stood at the lectern and told us to “educate ourselves” which I did. I paid for the associated degree in cash, the BA got me into $30 grand in debt.
A company that I had applied to three times in the past, once with a high school diploma and once with an associates’ roundly ignored everything I sent in. When I applied again with a BA that the ink wasn’t dry on, they couldn’t get me in for an interview fast enough, and I was hired two days later. I didn’t learn a damned thing with my BA, but they refused to even consider you without a 4 year degree.
I can absolutely, unequivocally tell you what I paid (actually, AM PAYING) $30 grand for a piece of paper.
My masters I learned a little, but I had to get the MAS or get left far behind as so many now are getting advanced degrees for a job that required none of it and if I hadn’t gotten it, I’d get thrown right into file 13 as a result.
My wife was watching The Price Is Right tv show today and it was college student day.
A black kid won the bid and got on stage with the word “BERKLEY” emblazoned across his shirt.
First thing I thought was oh crap, here we go.
When Drew Carey asked him what his college Major was, his answer was “African studies”.....that’s gonna look great on a job application.....SMH
The US needs engineers in many fields for product design. While you’re whining about useless degrees and telling young people to go into trades, engineering companies are hiring Indians and Chinese to work in engineering companies here in the US. Don’t complain about foreigners coming here on visas to take these jobs. You’re directly contributing to this problem.
“Berkeley” was actually spelled wrong on his shirt??
No I accidentally misspelled it....please don’t send me to the electric chair for this unforgivable transgression I may have to find a tall building and jump off!!!!! OMG A MISSPELLED WORD AAAAHHHHH!!!!! 😱😱😱
I think those who are enrolling in trade schools have already done their research and it’s WHY they’re enrolling in trade schools.
They already KNOW it’s going to be hands-on work for their earnings.
Most likely, these young men and a few young women will also NOT go near a college-bound or college-been person.
A small wave it may be; yet ripples start out small and expand further outward. :)
I actually thought you were making fun of the contestant.
Can they compete with people coming in doing the job? In many locals, it is cheaper to hire quasi legal craftsmen because they don’t have to carry the insurance.
And no one checks them.
Those same companies will not hire Anglo’s .
Good news. Always work for qualified tradesmen.
This may have something to do with why our local university dropped all mandates for the this spring semester. It is likely the funny money dried up and now they have to rely on tuition money to stay solvent.
“quasi legal craftsmen”
C’MON man....say it.....I won’t tell anybody. 😁
Then you completely missed the point of my post
Heard the same from our A/C tech.
Fantastic!
They are not all illegal aliens.
That is the funny part.
As trademen get in short supply, more and more “shady” stuff goes on.
I have personally used Unions because this.
