Forty years ago this week, President Ronald Reagan lit a fuse that would bring down an empire. In a speech to the National Association of Evangelicals, Reagan didn’t mince words. He put the blame for the Cold War solely on the shoulders of the Soviet Union, and called it an "evil empire."
He rejected our policy of peaceful coexistence with the Soviet Union. The U.S. would no longer accept perpetual Cold War with this evil empire, we would take steps to win the Cold War. On our terms. Without firing a shot.
For decades American leaders, of both political parties, had insisted we had only two options in dealing with the Soviet Union: either an uncomfortable Cold War peace or Hot War nuclear Armageddon that could have no winners or losers.

The Cold War was not won. It was merely paused. Red China took up the mantle of world subjugation, with the help of the Uniparty that Faux News loves so dearly.
Spent too much effort on external communists and not enough combating internal communists.
He won the cold war and now we are losing the culture war.
That would have required martial law, I think.

Wow is right. Looking at senile Joe’s mental capacity, immoral agenda and America last policies, it is clear we have decayed and are starting to stink, stink real bad…..gay marriage, trans in every .gov agency, boys in girls bathrooms, men in woman’s sports, LGXYZ’s making policy, …. Reagan would no doubt be extremely distressed.
The most amazing fact is it appears American’s have accepted and bought into the filth, …..my, how far we have fallen.
The “West” lost the Cold War. The Berlin Wall came down because the West had come up with a slightly more plausible version of socialism. But it was still another form of slavery, a form that valorized “personal freedoms” such as brand preference, identity self-definition, etc.
Putin’s Russia is the dead cat bounce of the Soviet Union.
Funny how we still use that Soviet-era term “the West”.
The socialism we’re beset with is actually a very old form, the Fabian form, which advocated working through the extant governmental forms to slowly sneak socialism into place (which Marxism also advocated to a degree if the country within its sights already had a “democratic constitution”).
Unfortunately, America is infested with citizens who hate their own country now.
When Reagan gave that speech, the WWII generation were active, engaged voters in their 60’s and 70’s. By the 2000’s, they were gone.
And the USA has been called "The Great Satan".
The speech was widely trashed by the liberal intelligentsia.
