Five Democrats who may retire ahead of 2024 Senate elections as GOP seeks control
Fox News ^ | 3/11/23 | Kyle Morris

Five Senate Democrats could retire ahead of the 2024 elections in America, relinquishing their seats to fresh faces as Republicans seek to gain control of the upper chamber.

Following the retirement announcements of two prominent Senate Democrats earlier this year, the question remains over which other senators will step aside and forgo what could be a potentially bruising round of elections for the party as Democrats seek to defend a majority of the seats up for grabs next cycle.

Last month, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., became the latest senator to announce she would not seek re-election in 2024, following in the footsteps on Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., who announced last month that she would relinquish her seat in the upper chamber when her term expires in 2025.

A total of 34 Senate seats - 20 currently held by Democrats, 11 currently held by Republicans, and 3 currently held by independents - will be up for grabs next cycle. The three independent senators currently caucus with Democrats in the Senate, meaning Democrats will be tasked with defending 23 of the 34 seats in 2024 if they wish to maintain their majority in the legislative body.

Of the 20 Democrat-held seats up for election, seven are in states won by former President Trump in either 2016 or 2020. Republicans, however, will not be defending any seat in a state won by President Biden, unlike the 2022 midterms where the most competitive races were in states Biden won: Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona.

#2: "I can tell you of one Republican who should be on shaky ground and that's Tillis of NC."

Tillis is the ultimate country club RINO right out of the 1970s. The only thing he's missing is the leisure suit.

Unfortunately he’s not up until ‘26 and he’s never received 50% of the vote

All the dems could step down and they will still have a majority, if we don’t do something about election fraud.

You are correct...my humble apologies...he was elected in 2020 due to Trump’s coat tails and his opponent’s tainted personal life.

He has proceeded to spit on conservatives ever since.

in states Biden won: Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona

Telling the big lie doesn't make it true.

No matter how many times the media gaslight the American public it was still an illegitimate election.

The GOP’s fate in the Senate and House will largely be determined by who is at the top of the ticket.

If they put up some establishment Rino, they will have a disappointing overall performance yet again.

If America is really lucky a relative of that dinosaur asteroid will strike the earth near WASH DC, and the dinosaurs in the Senate and HOR will turn into fertilizer. A fresh start would be a good thing.

As much as I agree with you, getting Cornyn out is a tall order. He has political reach that would make Tamanny Hall envious. His last two primary challengers had to bow out before the primaries due to the release of ‘unexpected but embarrassing’ information that had never before been seen by the public. So it has come to pass that trying to primary Cornyn is a health hazard.

On a slightly positive note, Cornyn votes conservative about 2/3 of the time. But at this point in his political career his conservative life is behind him. His only concern is keeping his rice bowl topped off. He is pretty much useless on any other subject.

As far as the Senate goes there are 20 Democrats, 3 Independents and 10 Republicans with seats up for grabs in 2024.

DEMOCRATS
Baldwin, Tammy (D-WI)
Brown, Sherrod (D-OH)
Cantwell, Maria (D-WA)
Cardin, Benjamin L. (D-MD)
Carper, Thomas R. (D-DE)
Casey, Robert P., Jr. (D-PA)
Feinstein, Dianne (D-CA)
Gillibrand, Kirsten E. (D-NY)
Heinrich, Martin (D-NM)
Hirono, Mazie K. (D-HI)
Kaine, Tim (D-VA)
Klobuchar, Amy (D-MN)
Manchin, Joe, III (D-WV)
Menendez, Robert (D-NJ)
Murphy, Christopher (D-CT)
Rosen, Jacky (D-NV)
Sinema, Kyrsten (D-AZ)
Stabenow, Debbie (D-MI)
Tester, Jon (D-MT)
Warren, Elizabeth (D-MA)
Whitehouse, Sheldon (D-RI)

INDEPENDENTS

King, Angus S., Jr. (I-ME)
Sanders, Bernard (I-VT)
(Sinema is listed as a Democrat because that is what she was when she won.

REPUBLICANS

Barrasso, John (R-WY)
Blackburn, Marsha (R-TN)
Braun, Mike (R-IN)
Cramer, Kevin (R-ND)
Cruz, Ted (R-TX)
Fischer, Deb (R-NE)
Hawley, Josh (R-MO)
Romney, Mitt (R-UT)
Scott, Rick (R-FL)
Wicker, Roger F. (R-MS)

Math alone makes it likely the Republicans have some better odds due to the number of seats exposed.

I have one fewer than Mr Morris writes.

Republicans aren't going to win SQUAT if no-excuse mail-in ballots, dropboxes, and Dominion machines are still allowed in 2024.

The sole purpose of the scamdemic was to be the justification for cheat-by-mail-in ballots and dropboxes because that was the only way Biden could win. RINO-controlled state legislatures happily looked the other way in order to get rid of Trump and did nothing to fix it knowing that the same methods would be used to defeat MAGA candidates in 2022.

Need to get rid of Mitch McConnell to do anything meaningful with it though.

No mention of Ohio-Sherrod Brown. Safe if he runs I guess. 72 years old.
No GOP opponent to speak of.

Ohio is turning very red, it is sad if GOP doesn’t challenge him. But the uniparty will do that to help each other out.

I can’t stand Tillis. I wish he could be primaried, but looks like we will have to wait on that since he is not up for reelection...yet. Sad thing is I have a friend, small business owner, who is conservative but constantly stands up for Tillis in discussions. One of these days, his eyes will be opened to what a turncoat Tillis is....
