Note: This article may contain commentary reflecting the author's opinion. Sir Michael Caine, the 89-year-old internationally renowned actor, has, according to reports, soundly denounced the characterization of his 1964 break-out film ‘Zulu’ as a “key text” for “white nationalists” and “supremacists,” by the UK government, according to The Daily Mail.

Well however he strikes you, you are mistaken. Michael Caine has been married to the same woman since 1973 and they have two children (now adults, of course).
The spear tip was made of forged steel, done the old fashioned way. If you had seen the movie, you would know that they also used the rifles and ammo taken from the dead at Kitzelawaya, to good effect.
Because it was good for race relations back in the day it was released?
BTW, they were not “spears,” but asegai, with a wide metal blade designed for close-quarter fighting as well as throwing from a distance. Their attack formation, the “impi” encircled the enemy from both flanks while they were busily engaged against the center. It worked like a charm on Kitzelawaya against trained and disciplined troops armed with breach-loading rifles. The Zulu were no pushovers, and they adapted to the use of their new rifles at Rorke’s Crossing quite readily. See the movie. You’ll be glad you did.
You think Michael Caine triggers your gaydar?
I think you might want to get it recalibrated. Lol.
The point is they were primitive. There is no denying that.
And it is not a question of bravery or respect. Just how the perpetually aggrieved don’t like that Africans are shown as primitive, period.
Just as GWTW haters view it as a movie about slavery, period.
I have never really watched Zulu but I wouldn’t mind doing so. Guess I should before it is taken away from us.
And that “Uncle Remus” taught his own version of Sun Tsu to the children to take care of bullies.
Leftists HATE that.
OK. Suppose, for the sake of argument, that Zulu "incites the far right".
This is not Germany. We don't have a Grundgesetz
Being "far right" is as legal as being "far left". "Far right" is a political opinion, speaking, writing, and dramatizing far right ideas or creating images that convey far right themes (like Zulu) is protected political activity.
Actually lots of movies were good for race relations in the Golden Age.
Some were direct about it.
Imitation of Life (Aunt Jemima copy, originally!), Pinky. Show Boat.
Many others simply had beloved characters in them. There’s nothing wrong with making whites feel comfortable with blacks around and I can hardly think of a BAD black character in any of them.
Good movie.
After the battle of Isandlwana, where the Zulu defeated the British force.
I’m glad to see that the headlines I read which implied he was rebuking the movie were wrong.
I was feeling a bit disappointed in the man.
I'm going to check if it's available on-demand right now.
Moore?
Caine, Moore... what’s the difference.
They were caught in the open and simply overrun and overwhelmed. There were also problems opening the ammunition crates. They couldn't do so quickly enough.
Isandlwana?
I always found it interesting that British soldiers in 1878 were still equipped with single-shot rifles.
Yes, they were primitive, but geniuses on the attack. What they couldn’t deal with was a defensive redoubt designed by a royal sapper specifically to counter their favorite attack method, the impi. While they had the high ground, they were able to use their rifles to pick off soldiers one-by-one, but they couldn’t use them close in, and when they tried the impi and their assegai spear/swords to overwhelm the small garrison in close quarter fighting, it was a bloody stalemate. The final battle and the ending were beautiful.
The Apache were also primitives, but they were experts at concealment, camouflage and psychological warfare.
The Viet Cong were another group of primitive fighters.
“Backward,” however, neither the Zulu nor the Cong nor the Apache were in their respective fields.
They’ve a magnificent bass section, but no top tenors that’s sure.
