I always found it interesting that British soldiers in 1878 were still equipped with single-shot rifles.

If they had been muzzle loaders, the battle would have been over very quickly. But at least they were breach loaders, and they showed excellent firing discipline in the final battle scene. But there were repeating rifles available by then.
