Note: This article may contain commentary reflecting the author's opinion. Sir Michael Caine, the 89-year-old internationally renowned actor, has, according to reports, soundly denounced the characterization of his 1964 break-out film ‘Zulu’ as a “key text” for “white nationalists” and “supremacists,” by the UK government, according to The Daily Mail.

Zulu is epic
I still love Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
In the clip you posted of the hordes charging them, Caine experienced that in real life.
“From his trench, the night was split open by enemy flares lighting up the battlefield and by the hordes of the enemy charging toward him. The first time he heard a Chinese trumpet break the stillness, he barely had time to ask his buddy what that was before hundreds of trumpets joined in.
“There in front of us, a terrifying tableau was illuminated,” he recalls. “Thousands of Chinese advancing toward our positions, led by troops of demonic trumpet players. The artillery opened up but they still came on, marching toward our machine guns and certain death.”
Caine describes the minefield they’d constructed to defend themselves from such a human wave as “suddenly irrelevant.” Wave after wave of Chinese infantry committed suicide, throwing themselves onto barbed wire so their bodies could be used as a bridge.
“They were eventually beaten off,” the actor says of the Chinese soldiers. “But they were insanely brave.”
Finally saw that movie via a foreign copy our family friend had.
I don’t see what the big deal is.
More likely the Chinese version of the NKVD was right behind them with machine Guns to encourage them along.
It’s also quite possible they were ‘true believers’!
It continues to be mainly white liberals who have a problem with ... well, come to think of it, just about everything.
GWTW has been hated a long time.
In my lifetime, it went for a yearly TV event to only on TCM, to having a warning on it in the last several years. Including a warning SPECIFICALLY from DirecTV on its info.
I think the main reason it was hated was more Yankee self-righteousness, than black defense, though that fed into the former.
I enjoy looking up the military history of the old actors and directors and writers and others big enough to get mentioned and am amazed at how most of them lived real, and gritty lives such as miners or cowboys, before Hollywood, and many were ex-military and combat veterans.
Another thing I enjoy seeing is how many of the old character actors were born in the 1800s.
A lot of us here at freerepublic knew people who were born in the 1800s, we just might not have realized it until it is pointed out. I point out to my son that he seemed to like all of the white people that he ever met from the 1800s, even if he was too young to remember them holding him and playing with him.
In 1952, Caine was called up to do his national service. Between 1952 and 1954 he served in the British Army's Royal Fusiliers, first at the British Army of the Rhine Headquarters in Iserlohn, West Germany, and then on active service in the Korean War.
Caine went into Korea feeling sympathetic to communism, coming as he did from a poor family, but the experience left him permanently repelled due to the human wave attacks practised by North Korea and China, which left him with the sense that their governments did not care about their citizens. He experienced a situation in which he thought he was going to die, the memory of which stayed with him and formed his character. In his 2010 autobiography The Elephant to Hollywood, he wrote that "The rest of my life I have lived every bloody moment from the moment I wake up until the time I go to sleep."
Caine has said that he would like to see the return of national service in Britain, to help combat youth violence, stating: "I'm just saying, put them in the Army for six months. You're there to learn how to defend your country. You belong to the country. Then, when you come out, you have a sense of belonging, rather than a sense of violence."
I don't know the specifics of the incident in which he thought he was about to be killed, but I do recall an interview in which he recounted being a machine gunner, crouched in his hole hoping the barrels wouldn't melt and that the Chinese ran out of men before his unit ran out of ammo.
I remember watching a TV movie from the late 70’s or early 80’s.
Don’t remember the name of it.
A bunch of southern black folks were screaming, “RUN! THE DEMOCRATS ARE COMING!!”
Then...
A bunch of hooded klansmen on horseback came into frame.
Holding torches.
Every viewer knew what was about to happen...
......just go to Amazon Prime Video, type in Zulu on Amazon’s search bar and it will pop right up.
Last time I watched it it was $3.99.
“”Giving up their humanity and acting exactly like ants, there may be another explanation: they considered life in China under Mao and his communists and opted for suicide.””
I know what you are saying and on occasion point it out myself if someone is getting too carried away with it, but I guess it is also a combination of forced behavior and courage while carrying it through.
The old warrior Caine who helped killed so many of them is choosing to grant them courage as they charged to their deaths.
They weren’t in the least bit backward in Zulu. They were formidable, and their war chants and songs were powerful and stirring. I don’t know what the leftards’ problem is with this movie. It was brilliant, and based on real events.
I saw the whole thing on You Tube repeatedly.
Eric Hoffer said there was no more aggressive proselytizer than the coerced proselyte. He wishes to atone for his weakness in accepting the coercion by coercing others. I suppose the same can be said of the Chinese’s suicidal mass charges in Korea. It might be that the fact that they have no choice makes them that much more brave. Or it could be an Asian thing, like the Japanese kamikazes during WW II.
They fought to a draw, with both sides honoring each other.
Backward…technologically primitive.
Spears and shields that weren’t even metal.
My point was the emphasis on Brits, mainly white POV, hence the quotation marks.
Yep, the movie ZULU is purely a movie about warriors.
