Places where flooding wipes people out for the third time always annoy me. Occasionally, the weather on the Oregon coast will let you know why nobody ever built a house on a certain tract of land. There are very pleasant, riverside fields, not far from here. I remember when every steep gulley upstream was scoured out by rain, and decades of forest/ logging debris ended up in an 8 foot deep, and hundreds of feet long tangle of potential firewood.
