Treasury inspector general audit: 42,000 federal employees 'repeatedly' don't file federal returns

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration flags 42,000 so-called "federal employee non-filers" and states the government is limited in its authority to punish them, according to the Washington Times.

The IRS puts little effort into targeting the non-filers because of laws that restricts how much information the agency can share with other federal agencies, so it has limit ability to prod or punish the employees, the audit found.

As of 2021, delinquent federal employees owed $1.5 billion in unpaid taxes, The Times also reports.

“Repeatedly not filing a tax return when a taxpayer is required to do so is a brazen form of noncompliance," the inspector general said in the report Thursday.

Pretty likely that a lot of folks have no show jobs and are ghost employees. Take a look at the postal service. Might find the grift that supports the UniParty voter fraud scheme. Just a hunch...

The Federal government can’t punish Federal government employees who “repeatedly don’t pay their taxes? Houston, we’ve got a major problem. Why are non Federal employees thrown in prison for not paying their taxes. The Feddies say they are limited to what they can do to punish them. Okay, here’s a list. Garnish their wages, put a lien on their home, threaten them with eternal audits, throw them in prison. It’s not rocket science Skippy.

So I guess Liz Warren can’t campaign on having Bezos pay at least as much in taxes as a secretary, a federally employed secretary who doesn’t pay because they don’t file.

Oh, now, everyone knows filing and paying taxes is for the hoi polloi. You certainly can't expect our betters to be bothered, can you?

My breakdown for Federale non filers is 80% black and 20% others. But why would they not file? To get back some of what is taken out of their paychecks?

Maybe they filled out their W-4 to minimize withholding.

The Federal government can’t punish Federal government employees who “repeatedly don’t pay their taxes?

This is total BS. The violation is called, 'Failure to Meet Just Debts', and can result in penalties ranging from reprimand all the way to termination.

I got a day on the beach for it when my ex-wife spent my voucher money before I could pay off my gov-travel card on time.

I guess they no longer enforce any standards.

This is easy to fix, just doc their pay and send it to Treasury until the debt is paid off.

The IRS can just send them a bill. If they do not pay they can then deduct money from their paychecks.
Is there some other reason why they are not doing this?
