We should laugh it off. It’s a joke.not a bad article, but kind of lazy. I’m not admitted in NY, but best I can make out the statute of limitations for all misdemeanors is two years. There’s a wide range for felonies and the author has a major lack of due diligence in not referencing this angle. The payment was made in October, 2016. 6.5 years is pretty long in tooth for nonviolent felonies. Even if the case is not time barred, as the article suggests, the notion that five years was necessary to investigate this simple fact pattern might presage a hard time for the case before a judge
How about the millions in hush money spent by Congress to protect sitting Congress men and women from sexual harassment charges ?

While hush money is not inherently illegal, the prosecutors could argue that the $130,000 payout effectively became an improper donation to Mr. Trump’s campaign, under the theory that because the money silenced Ms. Daniels, it benefited his candidacy.
