Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the deadly shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness centre in the German city of Hamburg. I’m Helen Sullivan, and I’ll be bringing you the latest. You can get in touch with me here.
Six people are dead and several injured, local media says. The perpetrators are on the run. Police have said several people died in the shooting.
“According to first indications, shots were fired in a church in Deelboege street in the Grossborstel district. Several people were seriously injured, some even fatally,” police wrote on Twitter.
Bild is reporting that the shooting took place at a Jehovah’s Witness church.

To be pedantic, Jehova’s Witness go to a Kingdom Hall, not a church.

In the Bible, the Greek term that is sometimes translated “church” refers to a group of worshippers, not to the building they meet in.
When the apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome, he sent greetings to a couple named Aquila and Priscilla and added: “Greet the church that meets in their home.” (Romans 16:5, Contemporary English Version)
Paul didn’t intend for his greetings to be conveyed to a building. Rather, he was sending his greetings to people—the congregation that met in that home.
So instead of calling our place of worship a church, we use the term “Kingdom Hall.”
The irony of that is there are a number of some of the finest hand gun manufacturers in the world based in Germany.

I thought that Witnesses only get out on Saturday morning.
Jehovah’s Witnesses. Therefore, the shooter isn’t going after Catholics for their pro-life stand or pedo-priests. It’s not radical vegan/eco-terrorists since the JW’s are already veggies. Not Antifa or other commies, since JW’s are against war and government in general.
That pretty much leaves some loon who was offended by their door knocks and comics, or…..MUSLIMS.

From Deutsche Welle: “Police said the background and potential motive behind the shooting during a Jehovah’s Witnesses event were unclear.
“We have no indications of a perpetrator on the run,” a police spokesperson said at the scene.
They said there are “indications that a perpetrator may have been in the building and may be even among the dead.”
I want to speculate on the “indications”. Perhaps skin tone? Non-German style clothing? Literature in a non-Western type font....
