Sunak is attacking the business model for illegal immigration, through disincentives to immigrate illegally, rather than just saying he's going to step up enforcement, or asking illegal migrants not to come, or using some of the other ineffective tools that thus far not had much effect, given the propensity of leftwing lawyers to get around the law and find loopholes, as well as the slatternly European Union system that makes illegal migration generally so easy for vast human smuggling cartels to take advantage of.

Wish we could do that in this country if only to see the wailing and weeping by the usual suspects, it would be epic.

This is a weak copy of what Australia has had in place for nearly 25 years now.

I would point out two things

1. Rishi’s method would work better for the USA — the illegal immigrants to the UK are not, generally, seasonal workers who come, work and go back and then come back again. The USA has a lot of those

2. However the USA needs a better guest worker system — the two things go hand in hand —> imagine if Mexicans and Central Americans get a clear path “go here and apply for seasonal work. Supplement your income and do it all legally - no paying middle men, no dangerous travels etc” — and at the same time we use the stick to prevent people using illegal means.

We have similar immigration laws in the USA.

They are rarely enforced.

From memory - USA law, first illegal entry offense, five year ban, arrest and federal imprisonment if in the USA before five year ban expires.

USA, second offense - 10 year ban. Third offense - permanent ban.

Can’t wait for the left to call him racist. Oh wait, that’s only for white people who support fair and equal enforcement of immigration laws.
