Ron DeSantis's big week comes as 2024 speculation reaches fever pitch
Washington Examiner ^ | March 06, 2023 12:41 PM | Ryan King, Breaking News Reporter

Fresh off his huddling with donors last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is teeing up a jammed-pack week as he seemingly lays down the groundwork for a 2024 bid.

DeSantis will deliver his hotly anticipated State of the State address to the Florida legislature, which is set to convene Tuesday, and start his mad dash to wrangle through a bevy of big-ticket items. Then, DeSantis will close off the week with a trip to the early primary state of Iowa to promote his new book.

"Gov. DeSantis has said he is going to have the most productive and successful legislative session yet," Javier Manjarres, a political consultant and publisher of the Floridian, told the Washington Examiner.

"Constitution Carry will pass," he added. "The Governor is focused on Education reform and appears to be poised to extend Parental Rights in Education to K-8, and protect children from being mutilated during sex reassignment procedures."

The governor's State of the State speech will be the first of his second term after he locked down a nearly 20-percentage-point victory in the 2022 midterm elections. The speech is expected to broach national issues as well as the various state items he is pursuing — similar to his inauguration address.

Perhaps the most significant item of business DeSantis is pursuing is an adjustment to the state's "resign to run" law that would compel him to step down from office if he opts to embark on a presidential campaign.

The legislative session will likely serve as a prelude to DeSantis's possible 2024 campaign. DeSantis previously indicated that after the legislature wraps up, which it is set to do around May, he can decide on 2024.

I will NOT vote for DeSantis. He’s part of the GOPEe club and is managed by the establishment. He has too many of the wrong friends.

“...desantis won reelection by 19 percentage points...”

But Trump got him his start as governor, genius. That is why people speak of disloyalty. He would be zero without Trump.

That’s the current law in Fla. He wants the Fla legislature to change the law so he doesn’t have to resign the Governorship to run for President. That’s why he hasn,t announced.

DeSantis is behind by 20-40 points to PDJT in EVERY POLL out there. If that is winning, I want no part of it.

I remember when Rudy Giuliani was leading in all the polls. And Scott Walker. And Rick Perry...

desantis issued a statement 6 weeks ago instructing people not to donate money to any organization that claims he’s running for president in 2024...

Post a link to that.

Irrelevant comparison. I never saw rallies by Rudy or Walker or Perry which attracted 1/1000th ENTHUSIASTIC crowds liek I witnessed personally during a Trump rally in Everett, WA.

No comnparison, it is almost idiotic to comapare failure of those 3 politicans with Trump.

Rally crowds don't mean squat. Thousands attend rallies. Millions vote. I voted for Trump twice. I never went to a rally.

Ron Paul had huge rallies. So did Bernie Sanders.

I voted twice for RDS in Florida. He is a good governor for Florida. My reluctance to prefer RDS over Trump is just plain common sense. RDS depends on his sugar daddy rich donors to run for president. Those sugar daddy’s do not have interest of hard working middle class Americans as priority. Their interest is bottom line in businesses they own. Trump is unusual candidate. He is never going to be puppet of anyone.

Yes, Trump is not a smooth talking politician. He gets into verbal sparring unnecessarily. But this man has sacrificed his untra-comfortable life and business profits to help ordinary working Americans. That is enough for me.

You are clueless. The rallies was why Trump won in 2016.

Unfortunately, he's not going to win in 2024. 2016 was a fluke and he ran against Hillary. Which won't be the case in 2024.

Now I know you are not a rational and knowledgeable person. Sanders rallies can be counted on my left hand fingers. Ditto with Ron Paul.

I am sure you have never attended a Trump rally. He had 100’s of rallies since 2015. And the energy in his crowds exceeds Ron Paul or Sanders by 1000 times.

Your comparisons border on incredulous incometence.

You can see the future? Are descendent of Nostradamus?
Jeb Bush said the same thing to Trump during debates “You are never going to be president”.

No, they weren't. Trump won in 2016 because the mood of the electorate was to blow everything up.

Trump's rallies didn't do him much good in 2020.

Wrong again. The mood in the country was Hillary was ahead by a large margin. Check pre-election pills.
