DeSantis is also reportedly seeking “First Night” for him,
from any newlywed woman in Florida - HIS state.

The prominent first amendment lawyer Ron Kuby – memorably name-checked in the Coen brothers’ The Big Lebowski, released 25 years ago on Monday – told NBC it was “hard to imagine a proposal that would be more violative” of free speech rights under the US constitution.

It’s not going anywhere. Should never have been proposed in the first place.

I saw this the other day, and I have to say this certainly sounds like a really bad idea. Not sure what to make of it or this Jason Brodeur fellow. Is this as bad as it sounds, or is there more to the story? Any Florida FReepers familiar with this issue?

it is a brain fart from one RINO state senator ... probably designed to hurt DeSantis ... it will never pass ... Newt should know better ...

I agree with Mr Newt. Free speech, no matter how heinous, should not be a crime.

Desantis didn’t come up with this, some other idiot did. All he did was what was required of him as governor, wait until it passes the legislature (which he knows will never happen), then either sign it or veto it.
He said exactly what someone in his position should, nothing until he has to. Just because some idiot who has an axe to grind or wants his name in the lights for 2 seconds throws out a stupid idea then how is this a reflection on him at all? His party yes, but he probably never even heard about it until it was in the media.

Where's a link to the full text of the bill?
If the bill is as described, it should be strongly rejected, but that's a big if.

Newt is correct.
This violates 1st amendment of free speech.
We already are too close to the edge of arresting Americans for expressing opinions.
Lets not help the left.

I don't think this idea is very good, but the headline and the portrayal of the proposal are not anywhere close to being the same thing. First of all, the nature of the blog would not have to be negative, nor does it specify that the only subject of the law is the governor.
What seems to be addressed here are paid political columns or blogs that are more or less disguised ads for or against a candidate. In reality, people with any brains (which obviously excludes Democrats) are able to figure out where a blogger stands.

This is so fake. A dumb bill written for the express purpose of letting Desanctimonius veto it for cred. What scum
To: conservative98
Actually, that proposed law could do a LOT to smoke out the Federal Government’s stealth efforts to run articles that put forth state-controlled messages.
I have not seen the actual text of the proposed legislation. But Newt is going full-RINO on this. Which is a disappointment, though a bit normal. LOL. Normal. heh heh

WHY hasn’t DeSantis spoken against this???
To: conservative98
It’s purely fascist.
And it pleases DeSantis.

Far left communist Martin Pengelly calling Gingrich the godfather of far-right Republicanism, LOL!
The Bolshevik @sswipe at The Harridan using Newt Gingrich to reinforce their beliefs in an article about Ron Desantis. The same media organ that used to love Russia when it was the Soviet Union is now lecturing about freedom.
