A locally owned, Washington state private (not publicly traded) super market chain here, with a pharmacy attached, said they would not sell the night after abortion pill. Claimed was religious reasons of the owners. They did say they would continue to sell other forms of birth control and would also refer customers wanting these night after pills to other close by pharmacies. This was in the mid 1990’s

A suit was filed to force the chain to sell the drugs. It got all the way to the US supreme court who denied certiorari. The lower court's findings (in favor of the claimant) stood.

The state of Washington then threatened to pull the license of that particular pharmacy (not all pharmacies) for refusing to sell the pill. Washington's attorney general's office and Department of Health were long weaponized before that became fashionable.
