Trump received 62 percent support in the poll completed by more than 2,000 CPAC attendees, bringing him 40 points higher than the second-place candidate.
CPAC’s straw poll results were announced on Saturday just before Trump took the stage to address the conservative crowd at the Gaylord in Fort Washington, Maryland.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) came in second place, receiving 20 percent support in the straw poll. Although he has not officially launched a presidential bid, many political pundits expect DeSantis to announce his candidacy in late spring or early summer at the end of Florida’s current legislative session.
Trump’s victory in the straw poll on Saturday comes after he handily won straw polls at both CPAC events in Orlando, Florida, and Dallas, Texas, last year.
Michigan businessman Perry Johnson, who tried to run for governor of his state, came in third place with five percent support.
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, the only two declared candidates featured in the poll, received three and one percent support, respectively.
Other names in the poll included Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who all received one percent support.
Joseph Belnome, a 47-year-old New Jersey resident who attended CPAC, told the New York Post he cast his straw poll ballot for the former president because Trump “knows what he’s doing and when he gets in there he doesn’t have to have on-the-job training.”

“DeSantis is a good governor. I think he can be a good future president … I don’t think it’s his time yet. I think Trump has to finish what he started there,” Belnome added.
In the vice presidential candidate straw poll, former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake received the most support at 20 percent, while DeSantis was second place at 14 percent.
I would like to see the tit for tat between DJT and DeS come to an end and that they join forces as President and VP,which would win the election.
Trump is paying a baby bonus and beautiful building infrastructures. Just like his covid policies… Tax dollars galore. #SmallGovernment.
Well, that shows Trump is done now.
I think CPAC straw polls should be taken with an expensive grain of salt.
One of the contenders, on a TV show today, was comenting on how the money and conduct of the “political campaign and consulting industry”, which is what it is - an industry, is corrupt, regardless of party. He mentioned how his team approached before CPAC and told that for $100,000 they’d guarantee him second place in the CPAC “straw poll”.
And before that we had all the shenanigans over the leadership and running of CPAC.
Yes, the Conservative “grass roots” is invited to CPAC every year, but they do not run it or control it.
What kind of people support a prez whose record is lockdowns, travel restrictions, unless you’re his unvetted Syrians, no freedom to assemble, unless you’re burning cities… bumpstock bans and mail in ballots.
Not to mention president Pfizer lined big pharmas pockets not just here but for “poor countries”.
Big covid checks to do nothing.
More freedoms permanently lost under trump than Obama.
“DeSantis decision to abandon CPAC was a bad one resulting in very poor optics”
If he’d of gone people woulda bitched about that as well.
I can hear it now...
“Trying to steal Trumps thunder” they’d say.....”riding Trumps coattails” they’d say.
Desantis hasn’t even said he’s gonna run yet......when it comes to him, the shark jumping on FR has become an Olympic sport. LOL!
Glad we got to hear from the Democrat side today!!
I bet had those numbers between Trump and DeSantiss been reversed, the small CPAC Crowd numbers would never have been mentioned once!
1. We are all on the same team.
2. The decision before our wonderful Country and Grand Old Party (warts and all) is on who will be our quarterback to run in the general.
3. All sincere candidates are invited, and encouraged to give the best they have. The nomination is owed to no candidate as they must appeal to the GOP voters for the privilege.
4. I will support and vote for my favorite candidate in the primary. I hope you do the same. You are not a bad person (or a RINO) if you do not endorse the same primary candidate as do I.
5. I will support and vote (early) for whomever wins the GOP nom. And, I encourage all there to consider the same.
6. We are all on the same team, we are good people no matter who we choose for the primary.
But that would require too much thinking on your part to think the elimination of some or all of that would pay for productive things like children and infrastructure.
BTW one more thing you and your ilk choose to overlook daily:
Trump accomplished more for America in one 4yr term than any President in your lifetime
you are blaming Trump for everything the Deep Sate bureaucracy did
The same poll showed 79% opposed to Ukrainian aid.
Well, we are just pissing away billions and billions with zero accountability. How much of that “aid” is being laundered right back to these swamp dwellers? We will NEVER know.
He listened to the consultants and GOPE. These baboons couldn’t pick the winner of a one horse race. The only way he wins the nomination is to go to these conservative events, offer conservative solutions that have worked in Florida and show he delivered, not talked and promised an issue to death like the current GOP has since 1989.
Don’t engage in a nasty fight with Trump, cite your record and he is going to have to eviscerate people like Bush, Graham, McConnell and Ryan on their lies and failed policies including the Ukraine, Iraq and the Patriot Act to the point of no return or he will be considered another GOPE piece of lying trash.
