No point passing gun control if you don't prosecute gun crimes.
Washington Examiner via msn ^ | 04 mar 223 | David Freddoso

In New Orleans, a former Innocence Project lawyer named Emily Maw is currently serving as an assistant district attorney. And it is going about as well as you would expect.

Maw is now the focus of controversy for declining to press charges in at least 15 gun crimes that occurred over the Mardi Gras season. These crimes included at least one egregious case in which the defendant was carrying around a machine gun — a federal crime that carries a lengthy prison sentence. That particular defendant also had prior convictions, according to local news reports.

Yet instead of prosecuting these crimes, Maw let these defendants off the hook, on the condition that they surrender their guns.

There's a big problem with this approach. You remember that old saw about how guns don't kill people, people kill people? Well, it's not just some NRA talking point. It's actually true.

When someone waves a gun around in public, it is not just about the gun. It is about the person's character. People who do things like that are dangerous. They need to suffer consequences in order to learn that human life has value and that they can't just go around putting people in danger like that.

The point is to take guns away from law-abiding white people. Hoodrats can have all the guns they want.

Sounds like a call to go after people who otherwise are not criminals, except for the criminalization of their choice to exercise their God given rights.

If the accused were given a pass strictly due to race, then the prosecutor should be fired. But were these people "hoodrats"? I read that one has "priors", but all were apparently visiting from out of town for Mardi Gras. If I were on a jury, and someone was being prosecuted for something that is guaranteed under the constitution (and they were not legitimately restricted from owning a firearm), I would practice jury nullification without regard to their race.

The GOP makes a huge mistake in not pushing for heavy sentences for gun crimes as part of “gun control” debate. Hoist the Dems on their own petard and prove they don’t really care about gun violence.

Does the name Alec Baldwin ring a bell?

The end game point is to use criminals with guns to successfully remove the guns from the law abiding public.

In simple terms, I could not have said it better myself.

Modern gun control disproportionately affects mostly Republican leaning constituencies and Democrats know this. It is why they incessantly push gun control each time there is a tragedy even if at the time it is irrelevent.

The left feverishly wants a certain demographic in this country, mostly white christians, disarmed ultimately to implement a Night of the Broken Glass styled event against them.

One out of 15. I would note that they did NOT say he was a "prohibited person" in any story I've read, so his 2A rights might be intact. They also said he had a "machine gun", but I wouldn't trust that until I hear what he actually had. If he indeed had a "machine gun", then he will be getting a visit from the Feds.

Exactly.

It's easy to stomp your feet and bellow, "From my cold, dead hands!" but if you are a middle-class white guy with a family to provide for, the consequences of a felony conviction would be catastrophic and life-altering.

You'd lose your job, your savings would be wiped out, cars repossessed, home foreclosed upon, children's college funds drained.

You'd enter into a life of penury and destitution with your future earning potential a mere fraction of what it was. As such, many would begrudgingly comply (even if they swore up and down that they would never).

As you said, hood rats have no such consequences because they never had anything to lose.

“No point passing gun control if you don’t prosecute gun crimes.”

And unless they seize arms from criminals, gang bangers and illegals it also won’t work unless that is going to be the police force they will use to enforce their gun ban.

David has missed the point.

The ONLY "gun crime" to be prosecuted is lawful possession by law abiding Whites.

Make people dependent on the State for protection, then demand ever more taxes or the protection gets withdrawn.

Here's an alternative : announce that if someone with a felony history (including juvenile) gets shot in self defense, the police will show no interest in the details of the shooting.

Agree 100%. No guns for white toxic males who incidentally made this country great with their work ethic and pay most of the taxes. Self defense by whites is a much more serious crime than armed robbery, murder, and aggravated assault by blacks (or the new protected class illegal aliens)
