UK Defense Ministry: Freshly mobilized Russian soldiers ordered to storm Ukrainian positions with ‘firearms and shovels’
MSN-- ---Kyiv Independent ^ | 3-4

According to the March 5 U.K. Defense Ministry's intelligence update, Russian soldiers are forced into hand-and-hand combat due to lack of ammunition. The reservists were thus ordered by the Russian Command to assault a Ukrainian concrete strong point with only “firearms and shovels.”

“The lethality of the standard-issue MPL-50 entrenching tool is particularly mythologized in Russia. Little changed since it was designed in 1869, its continued use as a weapon highlights the brutal and low-tech fighting which has come to characterize much of the war,” the report states.

The U.K. Defense Ministry also commented that one of the reservists described being “neither physically, nor mentally” capable of the action.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported on March 5 that Russia had lost 153,120 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion, including 930 casualties over the past day.

These Russian conscripts are missing some essential equipment for fighting a war... No helmets, no body armor... They won't last long.

The dude on the far right actually looks like he's of fighting age... As apposed to the rest of them, who look middle aged and out of shape. The good news... They do have rifles. Who needs helmets and body armor when you have a Kalashnikov?

-”” It would take years to ramp up production to match the 20,000 artillery rounds per day that the Russians are expending on average.”—

What do you think the Russian rate of production for the 152 shells is?

Why don’t you go ask the intelligence agencies who have been lying about Russia being finished and out of it since the so-called Kiev offensive.

“Not that I expect the Kyiv Independent to be objective”

LOL, while one can argue that media in Russia is not independent (yet it is posted very rarely), no can can argue the same regarding Ukraine, anyone not towing the party line has already been jailed (or worse). Which leads to the question...why is stuff like this being posted?

Is there any real indication that the US has ramped up production of 155 mm artillery shells to help Ukraine match or exceed Russian artillery capabilities? I have no doubt we COULD do so. ARE we doing so is the question. If NO, WHY not? the answer to that tells us all a lot about the real direction of this war.

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/03/bakhmut-strategic-or-not-is-falling.html#more

Bakhmut is of course of strategic value. It is covering the crossing of three major train lines and four major roads (M-03, M-32, T-13-02, T-05-13). As such it is the linchpin of the whole Donbas region. Besides that it also has some valuable mineral mines.

###

Russian source report death per week at a lower rate than Ukrainian death per day. The ratio is again about 10 Ukrainians for 1 Russian.

I have said for a while that Bakhmut was in operational encirclement. Russian artillery could reach its last roads in and out. Since three days ago Bakhmut is in tactical encirclement. Russian direct fire, i.e. tank guns and hand held anti-tank missiles, can now cover all of Bakhmut's supply routes. They will shot at any car that attempts to drive there. Its one reason why the reported deaths have harshly increased. Should the Ukraine decide to order its soldiers to stay in Bakhmut the city will be physically encircled. All roads will be blocked not only by fire but by heavily armed Russian checkpoints. The Ukrainian soldiers in Bakhmut, several thousands still seem to be there, will then be left with only two options: surrender or die. ###

https://sonar21.com/the-fall-of-bakhmut-a-prelude-to-the-fall-of-ukraine/

During the last year Ukraine has enlisted hundreds of thousands of new recruits, but these new soldiers are being sent to the front with only minimal training. Ukraine does not have the number of trained, experienced soldiers required to mount a massive counter offensive. The lack of personnel is compounded by the inability of the West to supply ammunition and vehicles in sufficient numbers to sustain intense operations.

According to Andrei Martyanov, who has good sources in Russia, the 300,000 reservists called up last August have not yet been deployed to the front lines. The meaning is simple — Russia enjoys a massive advantage in terms of manpower, tanks, artillery, ammunition, missiles and combat air.

The fall of Bakhmut is a major blow, not just to Ukraine, but to the United States and NATO. This sets the stage for the West doing something desperate while Russia is content to continue to pulverize what is left of the Ukrainian military.

According to SACEUR it would take NATO year to ramp up to the Russian rate of expenditure. That is what He said. I have no idear where Russia is getting all of its ammo from. I presume from stuff they have produced, but it sounds from the liars in Western intelligence that they are actually relying on previously unknown capabilities in 3rd world shitholes because the Russians are so bad.

The problem is that SACEUR himself has undermined your entire narrative. And he has every reasaon and incentive to lie and tell you how great everything is.

I myself know nothing. I just know that a whole bunch of folks on "our" side are lying.

What do you think the Russian rate of production for the 152 shells is?

Freepers who would like to find out some facts should watch this video by Perun. The West has a lot of artillery production capacity beyond the US -- the Czech Republic and Spain together have about the same 155mm capacity as the US. Russia's new production capacity is higher than the US's, but much of that production is refurbished Soviet Era 152mm shells. And both sides have a lot of options not considered by those who myopically focus on US production of 155mm, and Russian production of 152mm.

Article a few days ago:

71% of US population aged 17-24 can not qualify for the US military. They are mostly too obese, among the 71%, but a substantial % also cannot pass the Armed Forces Qualification Test. And about 10% have a felony and cannot qualify.

This leaves the US trying to fill the ranks with 29% of the age group population, of which maybe 0.5% have any interest.

Suggest surfing around for Practice Tests of the AFQT. Our youngsters can’t pass it.

Yes, we and all the other nations that produce 155 rounds have and are increasing production.

EU to speed up deliveries of howitzer shells for Ukraine
March 2, 2023
“According to the official, a total of 12 companies in nine member states are producing 155mm ammunition.”
“Numerous European Union countries are expected to release thousands of artillery shells for swift delivery to Ukraine under a 1 billion euro program to reimburse member states for arms deliveries to Ukraine seen by the Financial Times.
(snip)
“As a more long-term solution, a unified EU procurement system also proposed would enable Brussels to purchase arms and ammunition directly from European manufacturers, without going through the stocks and budgets of individual nations.”

For the United States:
“For example, the US industry currently produces nearly 15,000 155-mm ammunition rounds monthly. According to various estimates, the Russian industry could be making, at best, 20,000 152-mm rounds per month, although the precise data is classified.”
“Army Secretary Christine Wormuth separately told reporters that the U.S. will go from making 14,000 155mm shells each month to 20,000 by the spring and 40,000 by 2025. (some report 90,000 monthly by 2025).
The service in recent days awarded contracts to three private companies to produce and deliver 155mm artillery: General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, American Ordnance, and IMT Defense.”

The Germans for example are ramping up production:
“The capacity for the production of 155mm artillery rounds can be ramped up to 450,000 to 500,000 per year, he added, which would make Rheinmetall the biggest producer for both kinds of ammunition.”

I don’t know what “narrative” you are talking about, but I would like to see the quote of someone saying we can produce 20,000 155 rounds per day in a year.

Russia is getting or trying to get shells from its friends, Red China and North Korea.
