Also, there are no mountains in Wisconsin.
🤣
You learn to deal. I lived and drove delivery truck during the late 70’s from Sparks to Tahoe, out to Squaw Valley. You can drive on the snow, as it compacts. They only can remove snow until you are driving through canyons built by ice and snow 12’ or more. So it is compacted and the traction is nice. With that said, my truck broke an axle, we walked to a Casino and it started snowing. An hour and a half later the truck had 30 inches on it. A mechanic shop, car repair business who managed apartments (mine) on the side, got tired of living at work, and had to cut a way out through the roof and hitch rides down to Reno where it was a balmy 45 degrees. You wouldn’t believe the pictures. There were two story tall drifts, and unlike the Dakotas, the ground around was not bare and frozen. It was 2-4 foot deep too.
To think, I moved out of So Dak to get away from snow, and right into the snowshow of Nevada. It sounds like climate change(d) back.
ya i live in duluth mn for 17 yrs so know all about 24 to 36 in snow falls, this is 7k to 10k mountains with 6 to 10 feet of snow, the people who live there know how to do stuff, but it the air bnb’s who need the help, most everyone has lost power and the stores are closed. some of the main roads are plowed.
as flat as minnesota is....
My dad had pics of the tunnels they had in North Dakota out to the barns and supply sheds every winter. They just dug their way out early and often, then threw metal roofing over the paths when it was deep enough. You had to be tough in the 1920’s-30’s.
A coarse drywall screw and a hammer works nicely. If you’ve a magnet and a butter knife, you can pull one out of the wall in an emergency like that. Thankfully, the wifes junk drawer in the kitchen is where I stash those leftover in my pants after work.
Yes, I have even poked the cork into the wine. Not entirely satisfactory. Then you must finish the bottle.
Yes, I am wishing for a root cellar now. I have been watching videos of women curing meat to hang. Who needs a fridge? You think you cannot live without it, but you can and eat the same way. Except salad greens are tough, you have to grow them inside.
I came to California when Reagan was President and Deukmejian was Governor. Good times!
Ran that area often enough I started using NV360 between US6 and US95 to shave off some mileage. Heading east, it’s a left turn about 3 or 4 miles past the summit of Montgomery Pass, and on a map it makes about an equilateral triangle with 6 & 95.
Seasonal caveats apply.
Someone told me today the snow load collapsed the roof on a grocery store. They don’t build for that kind of a snow load in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Snow Show about sums it up FRiend!
It’s always Beautiful...
But also Deadly.
FIDO is Nervous!
Ha!
You go up into the mountains in winter and get snowed in...
And now you complain the entire mountains wasn’t snow plowed...
If you have medical conditions or are pregnant, just stay away from the mountains in the winter. Vacation in the desert next time!!!

As of Sunday, San Bernardino County estimated that it had made nearly 80% of county-maintained roads in the area passable, meaning that at least one lane was open. But the county noted that state and county plows are not allowed onto private property and residents will have to call in contractors to do those jobs.
