Exxon Mobil was sued by a federal agency for alleged racial discrimination against a Black employee after the worker found a hangman's noose at his worksite at a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, facility. It was one of several nooses found at the plant over a number of years, which the company failed to adequately address, according to the government.
Milferd McGhee, a Black employee who has worked at the Exxon plant since 2010, found a noose at his workplace in January 2020, according to the lawsuit from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which was filed on Thursday.
McGhee, who was aware that three previous nooses had been found at the Baton Rouge facility, reported the issue to his supervisor. Exxon wasn't able to determine who left the nooses, and the company recommended additional steps to remedy racial harassment in the workplace, the suit states.
However, the energy giant "did not complete all the measures recommended in its investigative report to remedy the harassment" — and a fifth noose was discovered at the same plant in December 2020, according to the suit.
In a statement emailed to CBS News, Exxon said it disagrees with the EEOC's findings and allegations.

2020? The same year Bubba Wallace claimed the pulls at the NASCAR garage were nooses? Hmmm
Al and Jesse have already chartered their gulfstreams and are on the way. Business has been lacking!
I found an AA plan.
Sounds like Milferd has finally hit the American Dream Lawsuit Lottery. “A Little Bit Of Rope” is all it takes. Nobody knows who the hell put it up. It could have been a black guy looking for some vacation money.
Garland and his FBI somehow can’t seem to find or arrest any of the people who attacked 70 choose-life centers or the leftist protesters who illegally threatened the lives of Supreme Court justices’ families. But somehow Exxon is liable for failing to find, fire and prosecute some dude who hung a noose when nobody was looking.
There was a time there where a number of nooses proliferated in the dormitories where I attended college in a small town in Northern Minnesota in the ‘60s. One student proudly demonstrated his “noose skill’ by making an official 13 loop hanging noose and hanging it on the outside of his hallway door. He then gave instructions to anyone who asked, on how to make such a noose. Several more appeared in the buildings after this. That’s how I learned there were 13 loops in an official ‘hanging noose’.
During the entire time I was in the college, including several years delivering newspapers in the dorms, and attending the college’s Laboratory School, I never saw a single African American person there. In fact, I’m not sure I ever saw one in person, except on TV. This noose event, which now might be met with armed FBI raids, was nothing but a bunch of immature kids ‘bragging’ to their friends. Clearly, no intimidation of ANYONE was intended. I wonder how many of these other ‘noose events’ might have similar intentions.
Yep
Just so. And note we NEVER see pictures of the nooses. Plus, having a supposed noose lying around was never a hate symbol until the libs cooked up that association a few years ago… pertaining to nooses we never actually get to see
Hanging the nooses in order to pull down the doors?
How many blacks employed at that plant?? being in Louisiana I’ll bet there are many. And this one find a noose?? G’me a break!!!
Yes, this story is interesting. I worked at a plumbing shop at a USAF air base many years ago. An airman learned the proper way to make a hangman’s noose, and had the damn things hanging all over the shop, break room, etc. He thought it was funny. Everyone else just ignored it.
Today some little woke tranny would be seriously offended and the airmen making the nooses would be in Leavenworth.
As a side story, people were bringing guns into the shop to trade, sell or show off. No one thought anything of it.
Times do change.
Or is it another case of a rigging sling choker being called a “noose”? Lots of those in refinery construction to hoist loads.
Of course he or another minority did it. No one else even thinks of doing something so ridiculous.
And no matter who did it, you get sued because why exactly?
You would think that Exxon would have cameras by the hundreds and thus have video of Fed operatives putting up the nooses. But refineries are so massive it would be hard to cover ever nook and cranny — and the employees know where the blind spots are.
It looks like Milfred has been busy since 2010. Hoax.
Follow up story in a few months:
“Today Milford McGhee was charged for placing 5 nooses at his workplace in an attempted race hoax.”
Should use the term Bubba Wallace used at Talladega when describing a garage door pull, "...serviceable noose"
