A repeat offender accused of sucker punching an elderly Asian man in Chicago’s Chinatown four years ago was found guilty of battery charges Wednesday.

In the unprovoked attack, Alexander Taylor struck 91-year-old Yen Jit Wong in the 2400 block of South Wentworth in Rogers Park on Sept. 18, 2018, sending the long-time Chinatown resident into the ICU with what was feared to be permanent brain damage.

Wong was walking home alone after having lunch with his son when Taylor punched him with a closed fist.

An off-duty police officer witnessed the attack and called for backup.

Taylor was found guilty of aggravated battery of a victim over 60 and aggravated battery in a public place.

His records show a 2008 sentencing for aggravated battery after he attacked a nurse and a 60-year-old security guard while staying in a psychiatric ward, according to the Chicago Tribune.

He was also convicted of attempted murder in 1998, which resulted in a six-year prison sentence. At the time, he cut his victim with a knife in the hand, chest and shoulder.

Taylor will return to court on March 28.

This case took four long years just to go to trial?
Was even he locked up during that time?

Four years to be found guilty of battery charges? Can't even get a simple conviction through a US court without judges/lawyers gaming the court structure to steal as much money as they can from the taxpayer.

The revolving door that is Kim Foxx’s Cook County States Attorney’s office made this possible.

So the tough guy negroid likes beating up on old people and women? Send the subhuman to Ukraine and see how long he lasts against the Russians. If he refuses to fight against people who shoot back, put a bullet in his head. No loss either way.

If the perp had been white any bets a hate crime charge would have been filed? Interestingly there is the category of attacking someone over the age of 60.

Is Mr. Wong one of those racist homophobes misogynists who didn’t vote for Beetlejuice?

I wish you a speedy recovery, Mr. Wong.

I believe he passed away in 2020, a year and a half after the attack.

My Grandpap was in his eighties when he was thrown from his horse while he was out checking his cattle on his ranch.   My Grandmother said he never really recovered completely, even though he was able to walk home when it happened.   She went to live with my Great Grandparents in Oklahoma and said Grandpap's dementia had really progressed when he passed away at 88.

Even though Yen Jit Wong was 91 at the time, I have no doubt that this evil thug quickened his death.

i grew up outside Boston but spent a bit of time in and around chinatown.

when i was 10, my sensei was a 6th degree black belt who trained with the tong (if i remember correctly) in chinatown.

one thing i know... if this crap happened back then, Taylor would just disappear.

Heinous crimes such as this are the direct result of the failure of voters to elect government leaders who have the smarts and the courage to require MAXIMUM prison sentences and the elimination of all parole and early release practices. Execute ‘em or lock ‘em up for life!
