Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he would strike a peace deal to end the Ukraine war “within 24 hours” if he were commander-in-chief.
“Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if I were in the White House, and what’s going on there is a horror show,” Trump said during an interview on Salem News Channel’s America First with Sebastian Gorka.
The 45th president shared his belief with Gorka that the media are drastically underreporting the number of deaths in the war.
“Those cities are being leveled, I mean, they’re being leveled. I’ve looked photos and aerials of cities where there’s not a building standing, and then they’ll say two people were injured – no many, many people are being killed,” he later explained.
He insisted that “the right president” could strike a peace deal, but it would have been much easier at the outset of the war:
A deal has to be made… And a deal could negotiated by the right president. If you have a president that knows what he’s doing, you can negotiate a deal even right now – it would have been a lot easier early. I always said Putin put those soldiers on the border and I said ‘Oh he’s looking to negotiate.’ I was actually a little surprised he did it because nothing happened during… my term.
“I would have that war ended within 24 hours,” he later added. “That war would end within 24 hours. That war would never have started.”
In Trump’s view, Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, where 13 U.S. servicemembers were killed in August 2021, served as a catalyst for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“The way they left Afghanistan was such a disaster. I think the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country.

I don’t agree with that solution. But when Trump makes that statement, thats how I read it.
The worst thing we can do is stand by and allow Russia to swallow a country on NATO’s doorstep, when that country is prepared to defend itself.
The alternative would be for Trump to side with Putin. Of course the Democrats already believe he is Putin's puppet anyway, but it could be hard to get the American people to support that strategy. Could he force Ukraine to accept a cease fire on the basis of each side keeping what it controls, by threatening to bomb them if they refuse? LBJ and Nixon thought they could bomb North Vietnam into acceptable peace terms and failed. I think they would refuse to agree. There wouldn't be anything left of NATO if he tried something like that.

Trump isn’t involved in the USA laundry machine. Of course he could solve it.
It might mean half of Congress going to jail or in exile.
How to end the war:
1. Tell Putin and Zelensky that each province in the East and Crimea will have free and fair elections conducted and monitored by truly unbiased neutral observers. Each province can choose to be with the Ukraine or Russia by free choice.
2. Tell Putin if he does not agree to this we will support and arm the Ukraine with anything they need to win and recover all Ukrainian territories including the Crimea.
3. Tell the neocons in the United States to shut up and not get us in a nuclear war.
3. Tell Zelensky if he does not agree all support will be withdrawn and Russia will have all of the Ukraine.
Ahem. Sadly, negotiation is not a strong part of Trump's skillset. He just loves to intimidate, call people juvenile names and put people on the defensive.
And, the notion of a deal "within 24 hours" is complete nonsense.

This conflict would never have occurred if Trump were still President. Putin saw weakness and elected to strike - just like he did with Crimea during Obama. Nothing like this occurred during the Trump administration.

To have free and fair elections you would need to have the Russian army withdraw and be replaced by neutral peacekeepers. I don’t see Putin agreeing to that.
