Nato boss Jens Stoltenberg says Ukraine to join bloc in 'long term'

Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg says Ukraine will become a member of the alliance in the "long-term", but for now it needs to remain independent in the face of Russia's invasion.

Ukraine has sought to join the US-led military alliance for years.

After Russia's invasion of the country, President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for that request to be fast-tracked.

Ukraine also applied for EU membership days after Russia invaded, and gained candidate status in June.

"Nato allies have agreed that Ukraine will become a member of our alliance, but at the same time that is a long-term perspective," Mr Stoltenberg told reporters during a visit to Finland's capital, Helsinki.

"What is at issue now is that Ukraine can prevail as a sovereign independent nation."

Ukraine, for years, has sought to join the military alliance between the US, Canada and 28 European countries, something President Vladimir Putin has described as a security threat for Russia.

Mr Zelensky has pushed for fast-track accession, but it is unclear whether full membership is something the alliance members will seriously consider even after the war is over, despite pledges of support.

When the war ends, "we need to ensure that history doesn't repeat itself," Stoltenberg said, during a press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

"President Putin cannot continue to attack neighbours. He wants to control Ukraine and he is not planning for peace, he is planning for more war," he is quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

On Tuesday, Finland's parliament is due to start debating a bill to speed up the country's bid to join Nato, with a vote expected by Wednesday.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, both Finland and Sweden decided they wanted to join the alliance as soon as possible, after being neutral for years.

The one last point for a long term cease fire was to agree that Ukraine would not join NATO. So now what do they offer? Unconditional surrender?

And the short answer from here Jens is NFW. But if you do Jens, consider Europe is on their own with that. Washington I believe uttered something about staying out of European affairs.

In the “long term,” Ukraine will be lucky to end up being as large as Monaco with similar influence on the world.

...giving Russia justification to prevent that from happening.

Russia should come out with a statement saying that Mexico can become part of the Russian Federation in the long term.

Well, something kind of similar already happened. The USSR tried to put missiles in Cuba back in 1962, and the United States went crazy.

Yet we donโ€™t expect Russia to go crazy about Ukraine joining NATO.

It’ll lead to a nuclear WW3 that a number of FReepers are looking forward to. Anything and everything is justified as long as it annihilates that evil Russians and Chi-Coms.

I would love that so much.

What would the Washington deep state have done if Mexico decided to join the Axis during the Soviet days? We know the answer.

"Russia should come out with a statement saying that Mexico can become part of the Russian Federation in the long term."

Why would Labrador want the burden? LOFL!

The primary, a priori condition precedent for Putin's prior invasion of Crimea, and now their sisyphusical Ukrainian War, is to continue the Soviet tradition of rewarding Russia's kleptocracy -- particularly those 'Old Communist' families -- who over many decades of the USSR and right up to the present day, were 'awarded', along with staffers and hangers-on, prime Crimean and east Ukrainian Communist outposts -- accompanied by their beautiful dachas: Odessa, Yalta, Mriya.

Gorbachev's Zarya dacha in Foros -- a billion-ruble 'investment' -- the more recent example.

This Soviet policy was and is specifically meant to displace the local Ukrainian populace.

Putin's illegal invasion of the Ukraine, therefore, is the exact equivalent of Mexico's Labrador declaring war on the US in order to preserve the Mexican mojado illegal US invasion of Texas and California and the American Southwest!

"ยกAztlรกn es nuestro! ยกLos Estadounidenses son Nazis!" ("Aztlan is ours! Americans are Nazis!")

This Mexican policy was and is specifically meant to displace the local American populace.

Ukraine joining NATO would be the ultimate and likely final provocation. A seething Putin might opt to "go down with the ship."

So . . .be prepared for that final "fitness report" because those new "Satan II" missiles will take an estimated 20 minutes to reach these shores. Many will be as one who procastinates --in the same vein as the recalcitrant bridesmaids in the "lamps parable" vainly (and futilely) looking for help from friends.

20 minutes? You've run out of time. Consider it all before then.

We know the answer. It was called the Cuban Missile Crisis.

From the start of this, I think Putin is part of the plan.

Putin is Obama’s buddy. Obama gave Putin the green light to take Crimea.

Why switch policy now?

Answer: To create a limited nuclear exchange so all national boundaries and constitutions can be swept away, ushering in our new WEF-inspired communist utopia.

History will be re-written that it was Putin who helped usher in the communist dream of world domination by allowing himself to be painted as the bad guy.

We know the answer. It was called the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Which has no relevance today, since now both sides have subs with nuclear missiles off their rivals coast.
