First thing to note: Soon this ‘feature’ will be MANDATED by our government (the one we keep putting in power due to so-and-so conservative not being ‘pure enough’ for us, so we let the Democrats keep winning to ‘teach the GOP a lesson’).
Second thing to note: This upcoming MANDATE will soon affect many other items, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, EVs, and much more. You wonder why there’s all this ‘smart’ stuff being sold, it’s to enable remote control of its operation - and no, you won’t be able to keep these things ‘dumb’, as they will link to your ‘smart meter’ automatically. (I know, so-and-so is a RINO)
One other comment: With phones, at least for now, you can buy ‘dumb’ battery packs and then charge the phone with them. Ironically, you’ll be both burning more energy (by having to charge a phone from a battery) and burning more carbon (since the battery doesn’t care when it charges). In the future it would be smart to buy larger and larger batteries, just to get around this crap.
Years ago (late 80s) the apartment I was in had a device that could remotely turn off the water heater elements during periods of peak usage. It is damned annoying to come in from a day’s work only to have a lukewarm shower.
I expect very, very soon That china will no longer manufacture things for the United States which means apple will have to open the factory here and the price of the iPhone will necessarily skyrocket

That wouldn’t work, either, if the feature is turned on. The phone decides when it will charge not the charger.
