Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” it was “ironic” former President Trump visited East Palestine, OH, in the aftermath of a train derailment that caused hazardous materials to leak into the environment because he took “down regulations.”
Reid asked, “You know, the sort of theatrics of Donald Trump being in Palestine were odd, but this is a community that voted overwhelmingly for him. The county that Palestine is in voted 71/29 for Donald Trump. I want you to reflect on the irony. In 2016, it was 68/26. This is a Trump county. What do you make of the fact he went there despite the fact the regulations he rolled back were partly responsible for this tragedy?”
Buttigieg said, “It was definitely an ironic thing to do. You take down regulations, you water down regulations, you weaken the power of the administration to deal with freight railroad companies, and then you show up wanting to be a great friend of the people who have been impacted by a rail disaster.”
He continued, “You know, this is somebody who, as far as I know, never went to a derailment site when one of those happens on his watch. And there were thousands — even ones with fatalities. Never even sent his Transportation Secretary to go. Now that it’s campaign season, I guess things are different. We were there to work. We were there to get things done.”

Being Democrat means always blaming someone else.
Does it really serve a Democrat argument to compare 2016 voting with 2020 voting?
It clearly states that no one wanted Biden.. even those that didn’t vote for Trump.
Liars lie.
Had nothing to do with regulation. Something about wheel.
I read this article. It is useless. It doesn’t refute anything Pete says, which is why I don’t read Breitbart.
That’s another lie.
The regulation didn’t apply to all trains. The train that derailed would not have been under the canceled regulation anyway so the charge makes no sense.
This used to be called a red herring.
Which "regulation" did the Trump administration strike down that contributed to this NS derailment?
That tells us why the Dim Biden administration is slow in assisting.
I won't be holding my breath until someone on our side — even someone on Trump's team, even Trump — deigns to offer up this (or any) rebuttal to Buttigieg.
Secretary ButtPlug sais what?
who cares.
Funny thing, the derailment was in no way related to deregulation.
NoSteam had plenty in the maintenance budget.
And maintenance regs still exist.
And that is the real question that should be asked of petey buttplug by conservative journalists “aggressively on camera”
Resign, Secretary Buttplug...
If Trump’s deregulation was the problem, why didn’t Biden and the Democrats, who were in control of Congress for two years, reinstate the rule that they claim would have prevented the derailment in East Palestine?
Shameful Bootiegig infant shits his speedo yet again.
So, how come last year when the Democrats in the House and the Democrats and the Assistant Democrats (GOP) in the Senate passed that thousands of pages long Omnibus Bill they didn’t change those laws or policies from several years ago? How come Biden and Buttigieg didn’t exercise whatever existing authority they have to deal with this problem?
Aside from who or what’s to blame, how come the federal government (Biden and Butigieg) hasn’t spoken out about this, sent the necessary full complements of clean up crews, sent federal aid, sent drinking water or spent any attention at all on those poor souls in East Palestine? Did Trump block them from trying to fix or ameliorate the problem?
This is ridiculous deflection on mayor Pete’s part.
