A school district was forced to pay over $100,000 in legal fees after banning moms from exposing pornographic material at school board meetings.

Forsyth County School District [FSC] agreed to pay attorney’s fees in a federal lawsuit brought by a group of parents who were censored at school board meetings.

The group, called the Mama Bears, claimed in the federal lawsuit that their First Amendment rights were violated and won the case due to the legal representation of the Institute for Free Speech.

The Mama Bears settled a federal lawsuit against the Georgia school district

...

We hope that school-board members and their lawyers take note," Institute for Free Speech senior attorney Del Kolde

....

The court also enjoined the district and all affiliated parties from prohibiting the plaintiffs or any "current or future FCS speakers entitled to speak at an FCS school board meeting, from reading or quoting verbatim from the text of any book or written works available in an FCS library or classroom, while addressing the school board during the public-comment period at school board meetings."

A year ago in February, Mama Bears member Alison Hair read pages from a book that was available at her son’s middle school library.

...

The lawsuit underscores the phenomenon of parents across the country paying closer attention to school boards by challenging progressive curricula and contesting books they deem inappropriate.

...

reigniting the debate on how much control parents have over their children's education.

The problem with all these lawsuits and settlements is Qualified Immunity, it is the Taxpayers that pay the bill, NOT the Perpetrators. They should all be held Personally responsible for their actions.

The school district does NOT care what it costs.

Its not coming out of the principal’s or school board’s pocket.

Really, this means nothing. The taxpayer sued themselves and paid themselves. This is no skin off the school board member’s noses. Until they suffer personally and publically no impact is made.

Offenders have got to be made to suffer personal harm.

So taxpayers are forced to pay taxpayers lawyers. The only winners are the lawyers.

“Did you know that every week dozens if innocent school board members are exposed to pornographic materials? Right wing domestic terrorists are showing these public servants the kinds of obscene images that only 8 year olds should be forced to see.”

When we home-schooled we did not have these problems. The stuff in our “school library” was very based. (I recently learned that “based” is the opposite of “woke”. Nice to use the right word?)

True that the taxpayers will pay. But still good because the payment is made via by insurance. As the cost of public school insurance rises, the private religious schools and charter schools suddenly become more cost effective and appealing. Everyone needs to get their kids out of public schools and let them rot or regain their common sense -- whichever comes first.

The taxpayers pay the insurance premiums as well.

Good, but not nearly enough.

Those at fault should be held personally liable for their actions. Take THEIR $$$ and take THEIR career away from them.

What I don’t understand is why the parents don’t seem to ever get damages from these lawsuits. Why is it that only the lawyer get paid?

The only way to hold those school boards to accountability is to elect new board members. This is the grass roots of our government and where we need conservative candidates and advocates/activists.

Exactly. And tax payers are asked for referendums at budget time to pay the excess insurance premiums. It's about time the tax payers learned how expensive "stupid" can be, and put an end to it. Quadruple those insurance premiums for all I care if that's what it takes for mom and pop to wake the hell up and remove the groomers from their schools.

They might remove liberal teachers from schools. Or they might remove Republicans from office. It's a high-stakes gamble that depends largely on where you live. In a red state? Go for it. In a blue or swing state? It'll blow up in your face.
