M1 Abrams tanks Biden promised Ukraine may not be sent this year or next, defense official says

The M1 Abrams tanks that President Biden promised to send to Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia may not arrive by the end of this year or potentially the next, a U.S. Army official said Thursday.

Last month, President Biden announced the U.S. military would send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine to increase its defensive capabilities against Russia. However, the military does not currently have the available inventory to supply the tanks and Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth said Thursday that transporting the vehicles to Ukraine "is not going to be a matter of weeks," according to DefenseNews.

"We’re looking at what’s the fastest way we can get the tanks to the Ukrainians. It’s not going to be a matter of weeks," Wormuth told reporters Thursday.

Maybe that's what Biden meant when he said the US Will Support Ukraine 'As Long as It Takes'.

It’s just a fig leaf.
And it keeps pumping $$$ to the MIC in the meantime.

The Bradley’s and thin-skinned vehicles are now in Poland being put on trains to Ukraine. It will be interesting to see if they are hit in Western Ukraine on the trains. They can hide smaller stuff in “civilian” appearing trucks, but the Bradleys are too big to hide.

Any M1 Abrams tanks sent to Ukraine must be stripped of it's classified composite armor and replaced with export-approved standard armor.

That means rebuilding the entire turret and front slope of the tank, not an easy task.

The entire Uke military and political system is rife with Russian spies. Every thing our proxy knows about US systems, Putin knows.

The tanks aren’t intended to help Ukraine. They’re intended to enhance the bottom line of General Dynamics — the company that produces them.

This is how modern fascism works.

Ukraine 🇺🇦 Ukraine 🇺🇦 Ukraine 🇺🇦

See, I can virtue signal for the third most corrupt nation in the world too. /s

It’s bad enough that the US is blowing billions and in the process harming most Americans. But the US makes false promises. It’s propaganda. It’s a lie.

To tell you the truth, I have no idea if this article is true because there are contradictory news articles everyday about Ukraine. Maybe it’s not a lie. Who knows? I have no trust and that’s reason enough to not support Ukraine or any US politician that does.

Highly unlikely. Russia can only use long range cruise missiles to hit anything in Ukraine, without real time targeting, which limits them to fixed targets only.

Russia is unable to put manned aircraft over Ukraine to do interdiction of road or rail traffic.

They were intended as political cover to unlock the supply of German-made Leopard IIs to Ukraine.

Which Leopard IIs actually are on the way.

Anything sent to Ukraine to date has been around for decades and has been sold to multiple countries.

Neither Ukraine nor any other allied country get top of the line US configuration equipment. They always get something less. In some cases they will get different software, armor ect.

Germans got what they wanted. They were too timid to be seen as a leading country providing modern tanks. With America sending some too they are not seen as leading.

“M1 Abrams tanks Biden promised Ukraine may not be sent this year or next, defense official says”

Considering that they don’t exist, it is really a surprise to anyone but the Neocons?

Impressive, you have proven that you care. Add an EV symbol and you’ll be out-virtue-ing every Ukraine Cheerleader here.

“They were intended as political cover to unlock the supply of German-made Leopard IIs to Ukraine.”

BINGO! The offer is similar to the UK sending just two tanks. Anything smaller than probably a hundred vehicles of any given type does more harm than good. That’s because the logistics for supporting a vehicle is a huge problem. The Ukrainians will need two or three levels of spares and some of those spares will need to be forward located which will give intelligence information on where they plan to attack. I worked on the Abrams for ten years and if I recall the mean time between failures is about an hour. That means for every hour you run the tank something will fail. The failure might not be a mission critical item but after forty hours in the field the tank will need maintenance. Some parts can be replaced in the field by the crew, which requires that the crew be trained not only in fighting and tactics, but in diagnosis and repair. This is why I cringe when people talk about sending aircraft. To train a repair crew on something like the F16 probably takes a year. I’d put the mean time between failure on a complex fighter at about thirty minutes. If you have the plane you have to learn to fight it, which takes anywhere up to two years, and to maintain it. Plus, you’ll need the spares. But the worst problem is that most Western built fighters are not designed for rough runways. The Ukrainians said they’ve beefed up their runways but that means daily attacks on the only places inside Ukraine where the planes can launch from. If they get fighters, they’ll need the Swedish built Griffin or some old Harriers. Alternatively, they could use propeller planes like the excellent lTucano.

Any plane the Ukrainians have will suffer rapid attrition because the Russians can fire long range supersonic antiaircraft missiles from well within Russian airspace. Being low and slow makes any aircraft a helpless target for these weapons.

After our exchange on the subject, I have been waiting to see your name come up to write and congratulate you on being right about the demolition of the North Stream pipeline. You were on it right away and called agents of the USA to be responsible. It now appears that Seymour Hersh's reporting is credible and well sourced if anonymous. Although a committed leftist, in this instance he appears to have identified all the particulars of the operation that lend his reporting substantive credibility.

Congratulations, you got it right and you got it first here.
