The US Government has told i that it is “deeply concerned” by reports of a Kremlin-backed coup to overthrow the Government of Moldova.
The message from Washington comes as fears grow that Vladimir Putin is plotting to take the capital city and use its airport to open a western front the war in Ukraine.
“The United States firmly supports Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” a US State Department spokesperson told i.
“We are deeply concerned by reports of a plot by Russia to destabilise Moldova’s democratically elected government. Russia has a long history of malign influence, both in Moldova and the region and we have worked closely with Moldova to build its political resilience and counter longer-term efforts by Russia to undermine Moldova’s democratic institutions.”
Tensions in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau are mounting after Putin revoked on a 2012 decree that underpinned the nation’s sovereignty on Tuesday.

Don’t you think Ukraine has other, more critical things to worry about? There are about 1500 Russian troops with very light armor and few(if any aircraft) in Transnitria.
I think Russia will make it sound like they are slaughtering Russians and Putin just needs to help them. I think it’s bullshit Russian propaganda.
Ukraine needs to escalate the war. Attacking Transnistria, engaging a response from Russia, pulling in Moldova and raising tension levels among NATO will work nicely towards that end.
And be ready to kick bakc 10% to the Big Guy.

Moldova IS Romania. That’s why the transniztra people broke off their “republic” They think they are Russians.
It's said always follow the money, but in this case, money can't buy required ammunition so the supply is up for grabs. Moldava ought to sell/ship anything they have as fast as they can.

Moldova is the size of Maryland, one of the poorest countries in Europe...with a bit over 2 million people.....alcohol consumption in Moldova has consistently been among the world’s highest....... Moldova is not a member of NATO as th level of poverty there is so great.
Moldova is landlocked, has no natural resources outside of fertile agricultural land and has recently been relying on handouts from the EU to try and keep their country together.
Scholars have characterized Moldova as an ‘unstable democracy with systemic corruption ‘....and a deep cleavage regarding national identity. The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Moldova a “flawed democracy” in 2022.
Correction....The current population of the Republic of Moldova is 4,009,260 as of Thursday, February 23, 2023.....many Ukrainian refugees have moved there.
The Pres. of Moldova was begging for help at the Security Conf. in Munick recently. She sees the war in Ukraine as an opportunity to get NATO, UN and World Bank help for her tiny nation, the size of Maryland......
She also wants Nato to assist - but the Head of Nato knows it can't (won't) as it's not a member of Nato and nobody wants responsibility for it.
Zelenskiy said last year his country had uncovered a Russian intelligence plan “for the destruction of Moldova”......this is not new. Then they send in people to rile the public.....we can name this tune in one note.
So this is definatly a Western move to increase the war.
The Soviet Union loves to arrange scenarios where a country ‘asks’ for help, which then, they say, justifies the USSR entering the country. The USSR either installs a puppet leader, or compromises the current leader. A few days after the initial invasion, some paperwork is backdated to ‘document’ that the country ‘asked’ for help.

Well, when Russia invades you, slaughtering Russian soldiers becomes fair game.
