Vladimir Putin has canceled a decree that recognized Moldova's sovereignty in resolving the dispute over the Moscow-backed breakaway region of Transnistria.

Also, Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky said that Russia was planning to capture the airport in Chișinău to fly in Russian military reinforcements to open a new front in Ukraine from Transnistria.
Moldova's Prime Minister Dorin Recean confirmed the rumor, but told local media that despite "several scenarios of destabilization....our institutions are prepared to face such challenges."

Other reports are that the Ukrainians are moving their forces into Transnistria, to force a Russian reaction and NATO response
FWIW, Putin has dozens if not hundreds of commercial jets that he seized at the beginning of the Ukraine war. They were jets leased by Russian airlines from E.U. companies. For lots of legal reasons they can never again be used in international service.
Shooting down a military troop transport from a hostile power—easy decision. Shooting down an airliner in airline livery, maybe not so easy.
He doesn't know Moldova very well.
OK, he knows Moldova perfectly well, he just lies because that's who he is.

Aaahhh Yes.......... All Russian communications are continuously and carefully monitored including those of cell phones used by the hapless Russian soldiers. They call home and complain to theri wives and mothers about their piteous plight.
Those long red and blue ovals got Russian Generals and Colonels killed until they learned to give orders by messenger much as Napolean did.
The story is a bullcrap to start with. First, there is an airport in Tiraspol meaning nobody needs Cishinev to “open a second front”.
Second, Romania is even less popular in Moldova than Russia is.
And Odessa in between, well there you go. NATO self destructs.
Re #2. No, Moldova would see this as a direct threat and attack. Putin would essentially be invading another sovereign country and widen the war. Trany would have a 2 front war on its hands. You might even see Poland get involved.

Well, if they haven’t filed a flight plan, and are flying out of an active war zone, it’s probably a lot easier.
