Post-Covid, firearm sales at the retail level soared to record levels. According to National Shooting Sports Foundation, the 2022 National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) totaled 16.4 million. While NICS checks aren't related to actual firearms sales, it's a proxy for gun demand.
A new monthly report from GunGenius, which uses data from Gunbroker, reveals the top-selling firearms sold online in 2022:
Here are the top-selling handguns from last year.
Here are the top-selling rifles.
And top top-selling shotguns.
Also, the top gunmakers last year.
We have covered soaring NICS checks in the last few years but have yet to shine a light on what Americans have been panic-buying. This report offers some insight into buying trends.
>> We have ... yet to shine a light on what Americans have been panic-buying.
I don’t see this as “panic buying”. Frankly, these nearly all look like reasonable choices for anyone acquiring a firearm, whether it’s their first or their tenth. (If it’s your twentieth, you already have ten representatives from this group. :-) )
I dislike the term “panic buying”. With the current crime wave people may have decided to take care of themselves. IMO
True. Guilty as charged.
Never understood why people still buy Ruger Mini 14’s as they are insanely priced and pretty inaccurate. Many videos out there calling it the gun that will not die.
I bought 5 in the last 3 weeks, in January 3 and in December 3, broke my 1 gun a month rule..
I own a few of those...
Thinking about getting a 45/70...
Anybody got any suggestions?
And in the last two months... (Nov. 2012 and Dec. 2012)
And it continues...
And there is more...
And more...
And yet more...
And more and more and...
We just keep buyin' more...
And we bought more more more...
And more and more and more...
Could it be? More?
More Americans buy more guns...
We just love guns...
Buy a gun, you'll be in Hogg Heaven!
Another month, another record!
Will the record breaking ever stop?
Looks like it will never stop.
It will never stop. :)
Gun sales records AGAIN!
Did somebody say "Boom?"
Reaffirming what we all know to be right.
If we buy anymore guns the continent might flip over.
KEEP FLAPPIN' YOUR LIPS, DEMONRATS! WE'LL BUY MILLIONS MORE. ;-)
The newer ones have better accuracy & they don’t have all those “assault weapon” features that would make them illegal in some places.
Interesting that three of the top four shotguns are either Mossberg 500s or some variation thereof.
Wow! Formidable display of fact, there. Thank you for that.
Well, thank you!
As you can see by the dates I started quite a while ago. I saw a lot of defeatest talk about losing our guns and wanted to counter it with some positive info. I am as concerned as anyone about gun control and have been since the ‘80s but it was getting to be a doomsday mentality around here back then.
The gun grabbers are going to need hundreds of miles of tractor trailers to load up all of our firearms. Too bad they wrecked the supply chain, those trucks will be hard to come by. :)
All they have to do is stop the flow of bullets. Then guns become an expensive paperweight.
I wonder how many presses, cases, cans of powder, bullets, primers and cases of ready-made are out there in workshops, garages, barns etc.?
I have enough for a few thousand rounds that I’ve never touched.
I have known several other guys who had a lot more than I do.
None of us were ever really into loading but we bought and stashed the stuff.
And then there’s the guys who are serious.
AND the best news is the government is forbidden from keeping records of who buys and owns what....
Yeah. We can trust them.
Mine was a male-kine barbie doll, so does not come under a name on this list.
And heck, got more than I can shoot on a regular basis as it is.
“Interesting that three of the top four shotguns are either Mossberg 500s or some variation thereof.”
I gave my Mossberg 88 as a gift to a close family member.
He could not buy any as they were all back ordered.
My shotguns are a pre WWI Winchester, a 50’s Browning auto5
and a custom Baretta O/U.
You can’t quality like that today for a decent price
Mossberg is high quality and affordable, I tried for years to get the Marinized 500 for my boat and they were
always sold out for the next few years.
I believe the Maverick 88 in 20 gauge is the best home defense tool. If you go for the 88 in 12 gauge get the opsol and run the mini shells through it.
I have loaders for 12 and 20 shotgun shells. When I load I use #2 buck.
Maybe too early for my brain but I’m having trouble making sense of the lists. How does the Rem. 700 make #2 overall but only #8 on the rifle list?
