Haley, who announced a run for the Republican nomination for president of the United States, is stressing the need for “generational change” in politics and has suggested that politicians over 75 years old should have to mandatorily take a “competency test.”
The idea of having a competency test was a dig at older politicians, but mainly President Joe Biden, who is 80 years old and is readying a run for another term, and Trump, who is 76 years old. However, the former president is taking it one step further, by saying “anyone” running for president should take a mental competency test.
Trump said on his Truth Social messaging platform:
ANYBODY running for the Office of President of the United States should agree to take a full & complete Mental Competency Test simultaneously (or before!) with the announcement that he or she is running, & likewise, but to a somewhat lesser extent, agree to a test which would prove that you are physically capable of doing the job. Being an outstanding President requires great mental acuity & physical stamina. If you don’t have these qualities or traits, it is likely you won’t succeed. MAGA! [Emphasis added.]
In his statement, he also emphasized that you would likely not succeed at being president if you do not have “great mental acuity & physical stamina.”
In 2020, Trump ran television ads against then-candidate Biden, claiming he lacked “the strength, the stamina and the mental fortitude to lead this country” as commander-in-chief.

Anyway, I’m sure Trump threw this out to annoy Biden’s supporters, and nothing more.

Oh, hell yeah-I’d add the WAIS-IQ test as well-and add a periodic drug screening-we most definitely deserve to know what we will be getting for our votes. Maybe drug screening for congresspersons, too-I remember a lot of articles from some mainstream sources about the volume of pharmacy deliveries of feel-good and psychotropic drugs to certain congressional offices-it was only a few years ago, so I doubt it has gotten better...
The companies I work for as a comp case manager require all of us at any age to be tested for competency and a personality profile-and periodic drug screening-in order to be certified-if it is good enough for humble case managers to be hired, it is good enough for POTUS and congress...

Why? I would rather have some check on candidates so that not just any dead-head grifter can be installed into a position of power over our security, our economy and our lives.
Personally I’d prefer a psych test, though I doubt any of the current hopefuls would pass.
Reagan wasn’t booksmart in the traditional sense (no Ivy degrees like Clinton, Obama, GWB) but he had something far more powerful: a moral compass that could tell right from wrong and ability to choose the best option from those presented by his advisors.
Actually, I think Bernie is the only socialist/democrat who would pass-he is obviously sharp and smart-but he was seduced by communism early in his career and it stuck..

If you are talking about an intelligence test-those don’t rely on education level per se-if you are smart, it shows-basic logic and reasoning, etc don’t require an Ivy League degree...
