After claiming its spy balloon was a harmless weather balloon and angrily condemning the Biden administration for shooting the balloon down (after it crossed the continental U.S.), the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is now not only demanding that the U.S. take all the blame for the incident but also that the U.S. abandon its unofficial ally Taiwan. As usual, the genocidal CCP is uninhibited by any interest in truth or justice.
CCP state propaganda outlet Xinhua News published a statement from a Chinese Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesman on Feb. 19. The spokesman said that China acceded to a U.S. request and that Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, unofficially met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken “on the margins of the Munich Security Conference.” That wording itself practically drips with disdain.
And just as during the spy balloon debacle, Wang issued sort of ultimatum, steadily insisting that the CCP — which has planted spies in every sector of U.S. society and government and has police stations in New York and Los Angeles — is thoroughly righteous and free from blame.
Wang accused the U.S. of “an abuse of the use of force and violation of customary international practice and the International Civil Aviation Covenant” by shooting down the spy balloon, which the CCP has claimed was a weather balloon accidentally driven off course. Wang accused America of being the “number one country in terms of surveillance,” saying the U.S. “illegally” flew balloons over China a number of times.
What the U.S. needs to do is to demonstrate sincerity, and face up to and resolve the damage that its abuse of force has done to China-U.S. relations.

Yeh, sure! 😆
Do you really expect us to believe that? Put a load of crap
Great headline: Blinken gets up close and personal with China’s Wang.
And what would be the downside of that?
Taiwan was never a possession of the US, but using "abandon" the way you mean it - we abandoned Taiwan a long, long time ago.
So, why are we still selling Taiwan arms and planes?
I have no idea. But it's not like Project Enigma over here. If we were jamming it or intercepting the signal and codebreaking, China would know. In fact, China would have (should have) expected us to. So why wait 3 weeks and send a retired general to say it on a local radio show?
The only proper responses were to shoot it down, or if feasible, to capture it and bring it down intact right away. That's what any government with the capability and sense of sovereignty would do. We didn't. It says a lot about this administration.
Of course it is all made worse by us then shooting down 4 other unknown objects over lakes and mountains so they cannot be recovered like the entire thing was pure comic stagecraft. Of course China is going to taunt us and as I said, who knows what's to come next. Proxy support for Russia is a real possibility to drag us further into that conflict while they do the Kansas City Shuffle on Taiwan.
We sell them arms and planes because it’s good business; and because at least historically we have wanted a firm footing in Asia and a check on China and the whole communist domino theory type stuff. Plus now we rely on them as a trading partner so selling them arms to protect themselves is insurance on our trade.
For my money, the best bet is to get closer with India, too.
RE: We sell them arms and planes because it’s good business; and because at least historically we have wanted a firm footing in Asia and a check on China
So, in a sense, they are not being abandoned.
I see “abandon” as not selling them any arms and letting China and Taiwan sort it out among themselves without our intervention.
But that’s not what’s happening. Nancy Pelosi just visited Taiwan and the new speaker Kevin McCarthy has plans to do so similarly.
That will get Pedo Pete jealous.
I distinctly recall that it was the local Putinists who were saying that the US shouldn’t go to war over Taiwan.
If China blockades Taiwan, which they can, that will be a job for the USN, no matter how much the US sells Taiwan.
So now it’s no longer Ukraine that’s the nexus of American political corruption?
You guys need to get your stories straight.
BTW whatever went on in Ukraine, China is orders of magnitude bigger as a source of payola. NYC is greater yet.
For the money, silly!
The "donor community" can't fill their private jets with slogans about "democracy".
To get closer with India, the US has to give up the Ukraine nonsense.
I will miss the carriers. It was magnificent technology in its day.
No, we haven’t abandoned them. But our policy on Taiwan has always been fairly mushy. We don’t technically recognize them as sovereign. We don’t have embassies with Taiwan just “cultural exchange centers”.
Could be China is testing just how mushy we are.
Hey!
China!
Up your nose with some General Tso’s.
I am all for confronting and containing China. China is the clear and present danger to the US. Russia not so much. We could have had Russia as and ally but the communist “Democratic” Party cannot forgive Russia for giving up on international communism and turning to the Russian Orthodox Church.
And right now the Ukraine is the nexus of corruption for America’s ruling class
Russia is a pimp, like Tattaglia.
China is the Barzini.
