The White House confirmed Monday that it had given Russia advance notice about President Biden’s surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday to avoid heightening tensions between the two nuclear powers.
“We did notify the Russians that President Biden would be traveling to Kyiv. We did so some hours before his departure for deconfliction purposes,” White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on a conference call.
“Because of the sensitive nature of those communications, I won’t get into how they responded or what the precise nature of our message was, but I can confirm that we provided that notification,” Sullivan added.
Biden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as the anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches on Friday and pledged the United States’ continuing support as well as an additional $460 million in military aid.

Funny how Putin didn’t do the world any favors..... I guess that he was to smart to take they heads up bait.
The, “hey- this really doesn’t mean much of anything. Keep sending hunter the checks,” heads up.
Looks like a “bag man” visit. Where Biden goes, diplomatic items go along with him, no scrutiny. He would have to go in person. Otherwise why bother?

That is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT for these Russia-haters - at least they figured out how to actually talk to the Russians. If they had done that a year ago, 200,000 or so Ukrainians would still be alive today.

The war with Ukraine will be over unless the EU finds a way in weeks to speed up the provision of ammunition to Ukraine, Josep Borrell, the EU foreign affairs chief, warned on the final day of the Munich security conference.
He said a special meeting of EU defence ministers slated for 8-9 March will provide a chance for countries to offer ammunition from their existing stocks, adding it is taking up to 10 months for European armies to order and receive a single bullet.
“We are in urgent war mode,” he said. “This shortage of ammunition has to be solved quickly; it is a matter of weeks.” He said if it was not the war would be over.

That the Secret Service would allow Biden to go to Kiev, for merely a cheap, political photo-op - is a tacit admission by them, the State Dept, DoD - on the restraint of the Russians.
Its also a tacit admission by them that the trust the Russians’ word, and also the Russians’ control over events on the battlefield.
Makes sense to me.
Reminds me of when IKE went to Taiwan and was supposed to go to Quemoy and Matsu. The Red Chinese proceeded to shell those two islands.
But then Ike was aware of what was going on not like Brain Dead Biden.
Guess they only kill Polish Presidents.

Actually, it’s the reverse.
Putin essentially gave Biden permission to go to Ukraine.
And somebody was stupid enough to write a speech for him highlighting the importance of “Sovereignty and Border Security....”.....for Ukraine....not so much for America....
Putin might be thinking something like Churchill did.
Back in 1944 the British military came up with a plan to assassinate Hitler. The idea was for a sniper to shoot Hitler while he was taking a walk at his Berchtesgaden retreat.
Churchill nixed the idea. Hitler was evil, but he was also extremely incompetent. Churchill reasoned that Hitler’s replacement would most probably be better at running Germany. So Hitler was left alone.
Then why did Biden sneak into Kiev on a train?
Now when Zelensky has FJB assassinated Archduke Ferdinand-style, they can blame Orange Putin Bad and start WW III for real.
