Minnesota Democrats propose ban on gas-powered lawnmowers, chainsaws, and Zambonis

Two Democrat members of the Minnesota state legislature, Reps. Heather Edelson and Jerry Newton, proposed a ban on gas-powered chainsaws and lawnmowers in the North Star State on Monday.

According to Fox News, the ban would go into effect on January 1, 2025 and include "any machine that uses 'a spark ignition engine rated at or below 19 kilowatts or 25 gross horsepower.' Commonly used landscaping tools like lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge clippers, chainsaws, lawn edgers, string trimmers and brush cutters would all be prohibited by that definition."

The ban would cover garden and lawn equipment as well as ice-resurfacing machines that are used in locations such as skating rinks, such as Zambonis.

Newton and Edelson are both members of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), and introduced the bill as an effort to combat climate change, the publication reported.

The measure comes after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed into law a Democrat-backed bill that "that requires electricity production be 80 percent carbon-free by 2030 and 100 percent by 2040. Republicans labeled it the 'blackout bill.'"

House Speaker Melissa Hortman said, "DFLers are committed to taking action on climate – unchecked climate pollution threatens Minnesota’s future. Now is the time to take bold action and ensure Minnesotans have the healthy climate and clean energy future they deserve."

You watch, there will be a clause in their BS law draft.

MN will probably fine anyone buying from outside states and confiscate the offending property. They may also reserve the right to fine businesses that sell any offending equipment to someone having a MN residence (thus placing another requirement on all retailers to verify who they sell what to).

Don’t think for one second this hasn’t been contemplated, it isn’t a novel idea.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Banning snow blowers in MN. That should provoke an interesting reaction.

Hey!

They forgot the ban on outboard motors! The smokiest engine of all.

Gonna be fun watching Paul Bunyan heat his house with a windmill in -30 degree weather.......

This should be really hilarious when they get a monster Minnesota winter storm and trees are dropping on the electric lines that are needed to charge the electric snowblowers and electric chainsaws.

Biden recently used a executive order and blocked all mining in northern Minnesota for 20 years on 225,000 acres.

“Today is an attack on our way of life. Joe Biden banned mining in 225,000 acres of Minnesota’s Iron Range, and locked up development of taconite, copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum-group elements, and more,” said Congressman Stauber. “Unfortunately, this harm to our country and our future has become the norm, as this President’s goal is to put America last. Not even one month ago, Joe Biden signed an agreement to fund mining projects in Chinese-owned mines in the Congo, where over 40,000 children work as slaves in forced labor and inhumane conditions with no environmental protections.

At least what was done with an EO can be UNDONE with an EO. Please Lord, let us have Trump or DeSantis or anyone sane in the next election!

MN has a large logging industry, I’m going to invest in companies that sell extension cords.
