Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to gather in Jerusalem Monday for a mass demonstration against the government’s judicial reform plan.
The protest coincides with a vote by the Knesset on a linchpin bill of the judicial reform plan.
The proposed legislation, which is expected to pass its first reading Monday, would increase the influence of the Knesset and government over the appointment of judges. Currently, just four of the nine members of the judicial selection committee are from the government and Knesset, with the remaining five members being judges and members of the Israel Bar Association.
In addition, the law includes a provision which would explicitly prohibit the Supreme Court from overturning Basic Laws, which the Supreme Court has argued constitute Israel’s de facto constitution.
Opponents of the plan have organized dozens of protests across the country over the past seven weeks, including a major demonstration outside the Knesset last Monday.

It should not be a surprise that Leftist Jews talk to Leftist Jews and share political methods. I am not sure why this is irrelevant.

The judiciary and the bar are acting like a guild that cannot be questioned by anyone outside the guild. Like in the U.S., the bar is predominately leftist or at least leftist supportive, and thus the “protests” they have organized against judicial reform. How dare the elected government question their guild!!!!!

There are far far worse things than killing some atheist secular humanist communist fanatics. They should be given many opportunities to be martyrs to their evil cause.

Maybe we should try something like that, before ours becomes a “defacto Constitution”.
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and shall not be infringed, come to mind.
They disqualify from membership anyone deemed “right-wing,” I think. Not sure, if that’s so. But if it is, that is directly contrary to American legal practice, which has no ideological litmus test. Just all the white shoe firms tend to be more woke.
My perception is that there is a lot more cross-pollination between Leftist Jews of Israel and the US that of the corresponding Irish Catholics of Ireland and the US. I don’t say that out of ignorance, I have plenty of personal experience and a fair amount of general observation.
