Russia has deployed around 97% of its troops as it tries to step up its offensive in eastern Ukraine — but it still lacks the manpower to “punch through” Kyiv’s defenses. a top British military official said Wednesday.
UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told the BBC that Russia had yet to make a breakthrough in the eastern region of Ukraine despite its advances.
“We haven’t actually seen this massing of a single force to punch through in a big offensive. We’ve just seen an effort to advance, and that has come at a huge cost to the Russian army,” he said.

So... Russia is entirely unprotected by its own defense forces?
97% is hard to believe.
I don’t know if I actually believe that headline. But I do remember an old adage about war: that an invading force needs a 5:1 advantage over the defending troops to win... or something like that. For whatever that’s worth to the conversation.
With the remaining 3% of troops defending the Russian Homeland, wouldn't this be an ideal time to bum rush Moscow?
I am guessing that they are talking about 97% of the forces dedicated to the Ukrainian war are committed?
If the Ukrainians pull off this defense all you could say is WOW.... This would be like the miracle of Israel in 1948.
You have to salute their guys on the ground regardless of what you think about their leadership or the larger conflict.
I’m 100% for Ukraine’s victory, but this headline sounds like wistful thinking BS. If this was anywhere near true, Siberia would belong to the Chinese by now.

This is from UK defense minister no less
He also claims 50% casualty rate
Meduza and BBC …Meduza a very strong anti Putin org claims they can verify 14,000 Russian dead
Ukraine rarely if ever posts casualty numbers unlike Russia which does
Lol!
No they actually say 97% of the entire Russian Army.
From the article: “We now estimate 97% of the Russian army, the whole Russian army, is now in Ukraine.”
“We now estimate 97% of the Russian army, the whole Russian army, is now in Ukraine.”
Some analysts have said that Russia positioned its troops and waits for NATO to send their soldiers - no real need to hunt for them in this war of attrition.
For good reason.
Their subs kinda sorta work.
Even if only 10% of their nuks works it will be a mess.
Damn, had to look that word up and I'm college edumacated. 😎
It is hard to believe, although the Ukrainians have recently killed or captured sailors from the Russian Pacific Fleet retrained as infantry.
A MEF could take the Kurils.
That’s what they wrote, but its not possible. They still have forces on the border with China, Syria, and other nations as well as forces located around Moscow.
