CONCORD — State officials on Wednesday identified the prisoner who died at the medium security state prison in Berlin following a fight as James Dale, who was convicted of the rape and murder of a 6-year-old girl in Hopkinton in 1997.

Dale, 65, was involved in a “resident-on-resident” assault on Monday in the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility, according to a statement issued by Attorney General John Formella and Corrections Commissioner Helen Hanks.

The statement said New Hampshire State Police and Attorney General’s Office prosecutors are investigating the circumstances of Dale’s death. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Sometimes, they manage to hide what they did.

And then they get found out. Or, worse, they BRAG about it.

Rape and murder of a six year old girl is not going to go over well with a bunch of hard-cases.

Does the prisoner attacking Dale qualify for early release based on good behavior?

I have heard of random people putting money on the commissary accounts of those who have killed a pedophile.

>>Prison justice can be a good thing.<<

Yes, even though it took such a long time. But . . . better late than never.

“Sometimes, they manage to hide what they did.”

Not too easy nowadays. The other prisoners demand to see your “papers” as soon as you arrive; they will not take your word for it about what you are there for. If you won’t show them, then they just assume the worst.

It’s disgraceful that society is so sick that it relies on the worst of us to deliver justice.

If it alerts the rest of us how diseased our society has become, OK. Otherwise, no.
