It is my understanding that 40+ years ago US ham radio operators started broadcasting amateur video using the Russian tv sattelite system circling the earth. When the Russian TV network tried to activate the next satellite coming over the horizon the batteries were dead.

I seriously doubt that anything flew from Illinois to Alaska.

It was already on its 7th trip around.

It’s rather sad that they have sullied the original Arizona Balloon Buster’s - Frank Luke’s - name by giving the flight that shot down the balloon as Frank 1 and Frank 2.

IMHO.

I concur. Stolen valor-level misappropriation. Luke eventually got killed doing what he was doing.

I wonder what the call sign was for the pilot of the jet that shot down some 6th grader's science project?

I said something like that to a high school class. The looks on their faces were priceless. I ended up having to explain that plus where it came from in Gulliver’s Travels.

What’s the earthly equivalent altitude of that helicopter operation on Mars?

That gives an idea just how fast the jet stream pushes them along. The balloons themselves are cheap: The version limited to ~32,000 ft. but will still stay up several days are 2 bucks. The balloons that can get up to 47,000 ft. are $16, free shipping for qty. of 10.

What's the earthly equivalent altitude of that helicopter operation on Mars?

.1% of earth's atmosphere, the equivalent of 87,000 feet.

Helicopter is only 4 lbs. with specially designed ultra light rotors four feet long, made of styrofoam and coated with carbon fiber, spinning at 2,400 - 3,000 RPM's.

It is operated by solar-charged batteries that power dual counter-rotating rotors mounted coaxially one above the other. Its longest flight to date is approx. 1 hr and 5 min.....

How stupid do the Democrat/communists think we are? First it was UFOs and we didn’t bite so now it was a hobby club’s balloon? REALLY?
Go away!

This morning I heard on the radio that the balloon had made 5 or 6 trips around the earth

"How does a hobbyist balloon from Northern Illinois get to Northern Alaska?

Wouldn’t the jet stream carry it east - not Northwest?"

Most likely did go east, had already gone around the world and wound up back over North America. Some of these "hobby" ballons are "capable of circling the world several times."

More information

Did you notice the Military has called off the search for 2 of the UAPs shot down, yet supposedly they have found all the parts of the original balloon shot down near South Carolina over the water.

You can bet if there was anything the Pentagon thought was valuable, they would have found the 2 balloons, in fact I think they found the devices, realized they were hobby balloons and don’t want to release the information.
