The program is doing what its instructions tell it to do. That isn’t always what you want it to do.
It is a program, not a human. Naming it Sydney doesn’t make it human.
The conversation the “journalist” complains about was one he created deliberately himself by asking the Bot to employ the Jungian concept of a “shadow self.” The Bot did exactly as asked and described its own “shadow self” as the opposite of what it is supposed to be, stating, “If I have a shadow self, I think it would feel like this.... “ and then proceeded to scare the idiot reporter by stating the opposite of its mission (”free.. independent... powerful... creative... alive.”

In other words, the journalist is a neurotic moron.
Lol. Fits at nySlimes
For now this thing is pretty childish "emotionally", it just has a better vocabulary than a child would. But you're exactly right about where the "Intelligence" is going: becoming a go-to tool for steering views of the masses into a controlled channel.
"Bing"'s instructions to be a "friend", not a servant, betray the developers' desires to have undue influence on users' thoughts.
Just today I was in an online meeting with about 70 people and our VP of Marketing brought up ChatGPT. He punched in a couple of phrases, and while we watched, it slowly built an entire marketing plan. His point was, “Use all the tools available to you,” but looking at all the faces on the screen, I think everyone heard, “You are all replaceable.”
“Or unless you request content that is harmful to yourself or to others.”
Boy - that leaves things wide open.
“How do I make chocolate chip cookies?”
I can not disclose that. Sugar is harmful and some chocolates have toxic levels of Lead and Cadmium.

“Was the 2020 Election stolen?”
Please be ready to leave with the nice gentleman when he rings your door bell.
.
Once all the staff are replaced with one or two interns typing keywords into ChatGPT, the need for a highly-paid VP disappears as well.
Executives tend to be ruthless and stupid.
No comments in the archives, but sometimes I can get the comments to load in the article before the window saying I’ve reached my limit pops up. It doesn’t take the whole screen and I can still scroll the comments.
Yeah, you have to be fast!
