We need to change one of our old sayings.

There are 11 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary, those who don't, and those gender confused who think binary doesn't exist.

Except a recall is NOT a recall. No parts replaced. Done over the air. Forced to do it by a government official. Tesla disagrees with their finding.

I don’t care if you don’t like Tesla, but this is just propaganda, and state control.

If you don’t want a Tesla, don’t buy one.

In case you have not noticed, the deep state now hates Tesla.

I have an EV, just not an expensive Tesla. And as soon as I bought my EV I disabled all of the driving assist stuff. LOL

It's as I posted on an EV forum I frequent to swap ideas about charging and other things related to my brand of EV: https://www.ioniqforum.com/threads/lane-keep-assist-adjustable.44973/#post-551450

If you get a new car with the self-driving or "lane assist" stuff, disable it immediately.

We have a 2021 Honda CR-V with the “Honda Sensing” suite, and it works quite well. But then, Honda tends to be a company that is more engineering-focused, and they don’t try to oversell the system’s capabilities. They make it very clear that it is not a self-driving system but only a driver-assist system. If you take your hands off the wheel for more than a few seconds with it engaged, it will first warn you and then disconnect all of the assists (except for emergency braking assist, which is always active).

I was pretty skeptical of this stuff when we got it, but now I love it for long road trips, especially on the interstate. All you have to do most of the time is change lanes. It makes long drives a lot more relaxing. But you have to be aware of how it works, what its limitations are, and you still have to stay mentally in control of the vehicle.

While it works extremely well overall, some of the system’s quirks are that the lane keeping assist will try to follow the lines at every highway exit, and occasionally the radar on the adaptive cruise control will momentarily detect a car in an adjacent lane as a threat and begin to slow down. Both of these behaviors, though, are minor issues and easily counteracted if you’re paying any attention at all. One thing Honda did right was make the torque that the system can apply to the steering pretty weak so that it can never overpower the driver and is easy to counteract when necessary. I’ve seen some reviewers who complained about the steering force being “too weak”, but I think they’re expecting these systems to be self-driving systems, when they expressly are not.

I do worry about the average “low information voter” type of person out there not understanding any of this and just assuming that they can let one of these cars drive themselves, or at least switching their brains off when they’re driving because they put too much trust in these systems. As good as these systems are now (at least Honda’s version), I never let myself get complacent, and I’m always mentally ahead of the car, prepared to intervene if it starts to make a mistake. I think these driver assist systems can actually be beneficial in some ways for those “idiot” drivers who never pay attention to what they’re doing. The collision avoidance system, in particular, should reduce collisions due to driver inattention. Other systems, however, like the lane keeping assist, may cause more problems for drivers who stupidly think they can just switch their brains off because the “car will drive for them.”

Tesla’s autopilot is designed to operate on a higher level than these driver assist systems, but I’m firmly convinced that this is a huge mistake and that “AI” is far from ready to reliably cope with the infinite variety of challenges that it will encounter on the average road (if it ever achieves that capability). The fact that it works OK most of the time probably makes things even worse because it lulls the driver into a false sense of security, only to suddenly drive him into the nearest highway barrier or tanker truck when he least expects it.

In all fairness, every human driving a vehicle may also cause an accident.

As I posted in #2 link to an EV forum I frequent related to my EV: https://www.ioniqforum.com/threads/lane-keep-assist-adjustable.44973/#post-551450

my problem with the driving assist is that it comes on spontaneously. At least for me. Yes, I can easily fight it because it's a light touch when it tried to "help" me. But the fact that it would "help" me at the last second often caught me by surprise at dangerous times. For example, when I'd casually veer a little over the center lane (when no one is coming in the opposing lane) to avoid someone checking her mail standing somewhat on the right lane, the "assist" would kick in to lightly move me back "in place". If I didn't notice it in time I would have run over that person.

Yeah I have a technology package I wanted the navigation system The heated and Highly adjustable seats and so on But I turned off all this driving features The latest history of pain But worse there was some kind of breaking assist it was somehow decided you were about to hit something and start to break it was pretty scary Maybe they’ll get it to work eventually There are a lot of features like I’m speaking this in and that didn’t used to work Very well either

My Ioniq 5 tracks just fine. I still keep a light grip on the steering wheel just in case. One time it moved me over in my Lane when a truck moved into it. May have prevented a collision. There are great safety features on new cars now but you still need to monitor them all the time.

Ford just posted a huge loss for the year....they partnered with some group a few years back to develope a “self driving” accessory for Ford cars....Fords engineers finally told the Board...um..this is not gonna work..just ditch it....fools..

Teslas have been having crashes because of the self-driving feature as long as they’ve had the self-driving feature. And for years they’ve ignored it ... until the Superbowl add aired that illustrated how flawed it is (running into ‘simulated’ children, overtaking school busses with the STOP sign deployed, etc).

Is the timing coincidental? Not likely.

Glad you mentioned that! It’s hard to drive with a beer in one hand and a cellphone in the other... need brackets for one or both right on the wheel. Seems like a simple fix that would prevent accidents.

Not to mention many cars no longer have ashtrays. Where do you lay down your joint?

I can refer you to many things the human brain and nervous system can't do that computers do very well.

To answer your questions, the humans failed. That was the software engineering team.
