The ‘DeSantis Is Trump Without the Baggage’ Crowd is in for a Rude Awakening
American Thinker ^ | February 15, 2023 | Matt Kane

Posted on 02/15/2023 4:49:45 PM PST by conservative98

Since President Trump left office, many of the “trustworthy” media outlets have created a talking point that is now held by a minority, yet noticeable number of Conservative Americans. The belief is “DeSantis is Trump, without the baggage.”

If DeSantis chooses to run for president, whether that is in the next election or sometime down the road, his opponents (from both parties) and leftist media will have no shortage of ammunition to create baggage specific to him.

1) As Governor of Florida, DeSantis image as a protector of school children and being “anti-groomer” has gone unchallenged. His press secretary Christina Pushaw (more on her later) took to Twitter to categorize his signing of the Parental Rights in Education act as an “Anti-Grooming Bill.”

2) Recently, he has been accused of partying with his own female students when DeSantis was a 23-year-old teacher in Georgia in 2001. Photo evidence shows DeSantis surrounded by 3 girls holding what looks like an alcoholic beverage.

3) DeSantis began a military career where he was a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer.

4) hich means accusations of DeSantis greenlighting cruel and inhumane forms of torture on detainees at Guantanamo Bay, including force feeding detainees through a nasal feeding tube pushed down their throats while DeSantis allegedly watched in amusement, will eventually be addressed.

5) DeSantis GOP opponents will undoubtedly question him on his Press Secretary, Christina Pushaw, who recently had to register as a foreign agent because of her paid work with, of all people, a Ukrainian politician named Mikheil Saakashvili.

Does that mean Trump is a neocon for making Bolton the National Security Advisor?

True it’s okay to take a pummeling from the women voters once in a while. Especially here where they are on a higher level in all respects.

From the moment the man announced to now, those “tweets before thinking” have forced the MSM and everyone else to start talking about something that the DeepState, Establishment, UNIPARTY, MSM, Left, RINOs, Chamber of Commerce, Wall St, etc etc wanted buried under a mountain.

There were plenty of times I shook my head, thinking….WTF did he say now…only to find out some time later that he was right or he was forcing someone’s hand to expose themselves.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
It is frustrating that the cogent point you’ve made here apparently fails to register with so many conservative voters.

I hate to say this but I think Trump may have a point that this guy is a meatball. If he goes for a six week ban, that will weaken him, and the bit about Gitmo sounds appalling. DeSantis appeal is to the center, but that could change.

Oh, certainly the media will come up with baggage for any Republican, and have previously tried to destroy DeSantis multiple times as we all know. This is not something to take lightly.

DeSantis, however, doesn’t have a history of jumping head first into every gotcha trap the media/Dems set for him, nor create his own traps to get tangled up in.

He has a proven record as governor of Florida. He’s doing the work.

There’s plenty on Trump’s past.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Big deal! Are we attempting to get someone elected who will be dedicated to making domestic and foreign policy decisions in the best interests of America and its people, or the most pious lad to be the leader of the boys choir? It shouldn’t matter to us what peccadilloes he’s guilty of committing in the past. It’s all nonsense intended to discredit a candidate who refuses to be controlled by the Deep State.

Trump’s initial labelling of our foreign interventions as “stupid wars” was critical to him getting my vote. He sabre rattled with Iran to appease Adelson, and I didn’t mind his strike back at the Iranian general targeting U.S. personnel through proxies.

I think he brought on Bolton in an attempt to gain favor in any sector of the GOP establishment at that point in his administration, and nothing more. He openly mocked him (’Let me guess, you want to nuke them all’), whereas DeSantis praises him.

I was disappointed he failed to achieve a withdrawal from Syria. I think he got snowed by the neocons in the Deep State on that. (“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” Jeffrey said in an interview. The actual number of troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the roughly two hundred troops Trump initially agreed to leave there in 2019.)

I suspect Trump will run on an Eisenhower like campaign to ‘bring an end to the war’ in Ukraine. An end, not a win.

I don’t expect DeSantis to run a similar platform, or to eschew more foreign adventurism. Nothing in his past indicates, just the opposite.

Everyone who has wealth wants more wealth.

Any man can be bought if the price is right.

Trump is not as wealthy as he used to be.

But the enemy is telling me I should support DeSantis... because they care...

Reminds me of Ronna McDaniel repeating the dems call to "run better candidates" by purging MAGA candidates "for the GOP's own good."

in the 2012 election, Mitt Romney, who, all things considered, was as squeaky clean in the personal behavior column as it came, was dragged for months over the thinnest of accusations.

They tried to make a big deal about him putting the family dog on top of the car in a crate once. They mocked him endlessly for his “binders of women”, they found some boarding school story about how he picked on a kid as a teenager.

Baggage doesn’t matter. The partisans will chant anything that comes up and try to turn it into a capital case. The media will parrot whatever makes the republican candidates look the most disorganized and dangerous.

Turnout. That matters.

DeSantis idolizers are arrogant, obnoxious, NeverTrump neocons.

Why do you people always insist on hurling childish insults at President Trump and his supporters? For someone who claims to be a perfect Christian, you don’t behave as one.

Be better.

DeSantis should have stayed in the minor leagues for a little longer. He’s not ready for the Big League yet.

I want down the list posted here, the only probable case they might use as a success in demonizing him would be about torture, true or not, but his first push back should be, it was a accepted in the wider circle at the time, he should not be singled out.
